I followed you here from tiktok too, thanks for the wonderful content. I've long been in awe of the unfathomably ancient cultures of the original Australians, my own ancestors got here to the US only about 1830s and after, but I also treasure the connections we all have to peoples tens of thousands of years ago and before. Partly as a reminder of that, on one shoulder I have a tattoo of one of the bison depicted in the Altamira cave (from about 16ka), replicating the beautiful ochres as much as possible. Thank you also for the respectful way you acknowledge the Aboriginal peoples in sharing something of their story.

Wonderful doco. Thanks. I've always imagined that the first settlers were guided in their boats by the rising smoke from naturally occurring forest fires. This could have offered a sustained marker over the duration of their voyage.

So I am confused, if we accept that the out of Africa theory of human migration is right, and let’s say that the timeframes get pushed back, which is fine. Wouldn’t we have to say that every civilisation that is on the path is older than the indigenous people of Australia

Didn't realize I was subscribed already. Just went on a TikTok binge and landed on the last 15 of your videos haha. Needed longer content and got exactly what I needed 👍

While acknowledging the history of Aboriginal peoples in Australia is important, the overuse of Acknowledgement of Country risks singling out one group based solely on their arrival thousands of years ago. Every person’s ancestors, regardless of when or how they arrived, have contributed to the shared history of this land. It’s remarkable that any of us are here at all, and no group should receive perpetual special status simply because of the timing of their settlement. All our stories and contributions matter.

I studied Anthropology in Dunedin in late 1970s and was told the Aborigines had arrived there 45, 000 years ago but i had my own feelings they had been there a far longer time ago. This appears to be correct, I am not surprised.
Keep up this good work as it is truly worth the effort,
Les

This is great, thank you.
Do archaeologists think there was 1 migration that split off into all the different groups we have now, or that there was multiple migrations?

I followed you here from Tiktok. I now use ochre in at least 5 sentences a day just because I love the way it doesn't roll off my tongue. 😀 I enjoy your content.

We can’t know where the first people came ashore as that beach is under several hundred feet of water on the current Continental Shelf.

Excellent. Greatly appreciated the acknowledgement of the First Peoples. This has much attention to detail, including the speed & time of a watercraft over the ocean, and complexities of dating archaeological layers. Many thanks to the host for providing this information.

With terrestrial lizards larger than the largest crocodiles we have in australia today roaming across the countryside, its very plausable that fire regimes were enacted to kill of these predators therefore leading to mass extinctions of the megafauna, and the desertification of central australia, this would have been a priority of any colonisers that were hoping to survive such terrifying creatures.

The Aborigines and the first Poms here didn’t build the magnificent buildings whose architecture was found all over this realm, so who did? If only civilisations true story was allowed to be told.Keep the sheep divided, fighting and ignorant while the masters pull the strings.👹👹👹⏰⏰

Australia was created in 1901. The first Australians were of British origin as the natives weren't regarded as citizens.
