When I was a medic we would have guys coming into the aid station with symptoms similar to dehydration, but they had been hydrating frequently. What was happening was they where drinking so much, but not eating, that they were shifting their electrolyte balance. Usually after consuming an MRE, they were feeling much better. So, eating, drinking, and don’t forget getting adequate rest keeps the medics away.

If anyone’s wondering what distilled water IS good for; You use distilled water in machines (for instance a sleep apnea machine) and the reason being the minerals can wear down the components of the machine faster. Mineral water for your body, distilled water for your machines!

That’s why you take mineral tabs with when you stay in a cabin in the mountains. Drinking snow melt will leach the minerals right out of you after a while.

Thank you, Neil, no one could answer that question for me and yet you blurted out like a breath of air. That is what I like about you.

Distilled water tastes great cold. It's also good for cleanses. It not only cleans out minerals, it helps to also clean out the bad stuff.

OK that explains why I felt so terrible the next day I took a gallon of distilled water and a thermos of ice with me to do an outdoor vent because I was in a hurry. Yeah I felt absolutely drained the next day.

I managed a project to build a gas turbine power station. The water purification plant produced ultra pure de-ionized water for injection into the gas turbine. The water storage tank included a membrane to prevent atmospheric gas being absorbed into the water. That water was so pure, it was dangerous to drink. The water was considered to be a toxic environmental hazard. If released, it would have killed fish and plant life. It dissolved stainless steel fittings. The human body was not designed to drink pure water.

We get our minerals primarily from food. So it doesn't really matter if you drink water with 10ppm tds, 100 or 0. You need to eat fruits and vegetable and you'll get your minerals from there. If you on the other hand are not eating for some reason - yes you need water with high mineral content.

Weeks of Castor oil presses and 1 gallon of distilled water saved my best friends gallbladder. A doctor oversaw the treatement and tests.

Distilled water should be used when MINERALS are NOT needed, such as in a clothes iron. If you use tap water the water boils away, leaving mineral deposits. Using distilled water leaves nothing. Filtered water should get rid of harmful sediments but leaves behind the necessary minerals we need. Good job Neil!

Also, if a person needs that scant minerals in city water he/she is malnourished! Even if distilled water removes minerals, the vast majority of minerals one gets are from food!
