Has Warren Buffett Lost His Touch?

In this video, I discuss Warren Buffett's investment strategy and how it has fared over the past 10 years. I conclude that he and Berkshire Hathaway have underperformed the S&P 500 for the past 5 and 10 year time periods.

Buffett has been unable to adapt to the challenges of new technology and faster innovation. Instead, he has relied on monopolies and companies that engage in regulatory capture (banks, insurance companies), as well as food and beverage companies that privatize profits and socialize expenses in the form of obesity and diabetes.

His advice on gold has been terrible, and he is likely underestimating Bitcoin's out-performance going forward as well. Overall, he has benefitted enormously from the fiat money system, as well as from falling interest rates and rising P/E ratios over his investing career.

im long brk.b (underweight), and I had high hopes when I bought berkshire around March 20th. I escalated my buying in stocks right when the vix turned around last week of march and i thought FOR SURE buffett would be doing the same, putting to use some of that 134 billion in cash. A buffett style long term investor does not try to time the market, instead you take discounts when they happen. massive discounts across all sectors happened in March and I thought there is no way in hell he will miss this epic firesale...imagine my disappointment when I find out that he sat on his a$$ and all he did was sell airline stock (after buying more in early march...disaster)...he 100% has lost it and needs to hand the reins over to Ajit et al...the old man is paralyzed with fear

Thank you for making this video and thanks to youtube for recommending it lol. People praise this guy like he's some sort of nobel peace prize winner or a war hero, people think having a lot of money makes you a role model. I got into stocks like a year ago, so definitely not an expert at all. People told me to buy BRK-B at first but when I looked at what he had in his portfolio it's companies I don't believe will be great investments for the next 30 years, (apple relies on the iphone too much and their innovation days are way behind them, they rely on being a "cool" brand too much but that's just my opinion). Recently he sold all airline stocks. Does this man think planes won't be a thing after this pandemic goes away eventually? He only invests is things he understands but this man is almost 90!!! It's 2020, no 90 year old can tell me what the future of tech companies will look like and plus I'm sure he doesn't care because he won't be here in 15-20 years. One more thing in my rant that no one is going to read. His quotes of "when people are scared be greedy... bla bla" is just a slap to the face to the middle class, sorry old rich guy, some people have mortgages and can't afford to invest large amounts of cash during economic recessions you disconnected old fuck.

I drink Diet Coke with Woodford! Deelish!! Don't know if you're an occasional bourbon drinker, but Woodford is some of the best! I am also partial to Grey Poupon and Planters. You are so correct and on point about Berkshire Hathaway and Mr. Buffett. I started to buy a couple of shares of BRK.A when it hovered around $280K a share. Saw it rise to $347K only to fall all the way back to where it is today. Glad I didn't buy. Of course I *love* your teaching style. You ARE the best on the Internet. I haven't disagreed with anything you've said so far and I carefully listen to what you have to say.

Absolute amazing video, great insight into Buffet’s investing life. It’s nice to see the negative sides of such a famous investor. Keep the videos going, info is really well presented and clear.

You are always thorough and often do a great job with your videos but one thing I think you missed in this video was how many times after Buffet became well known and popular he benefited by running a pump and dump. He had a talent for it by doing it in a slow way. This was the thing that frustrated me most about him because everyone seemed to be unaware of what he was doing.

He didn't sell WF when they actually were doing Fraud, but sold all Airlines when it wasn't even their mistake(virus) of the market crash...hence I definitely don't really blindly follow his moves on stocks..

Hi Matthew. Great video, once again. A few years ago you wrote a book titled "Invest like Warren Buffett". I thought it was a great book and an easy read. Still do. Is there anything about that book you would say differently if you wrote it today?

Excellent video, I absolutely agree with every single point, finally someone that sees the wood from the trees, I can't believe there are so many investors are hanging off of his every word and action, and as you mention his dealings with these companies that are corrupt or do not improve the world like Wells Fargo and Coke is really questionable. I believe his abandonment of the airlines is because he had inside information on the bail out package and realised that they would not be getting as much as they need.

I do agree with you on the innovation part

And Buffet is not worried keeping most of BKH cash pile on fed bonds. Of course, the fed always can print more money to clear its bonds. And he doesn't understand why rate agencies (s&p ...) degraded us debt ... well, as he said last sharehold meeting, Argentina has problems with USD bonds, but US never.

This was a great video, Matt, really opened my eyes on this one. And I agree, we should be looking towards new horizons if we want to thrive and evolve as humanity.
