Some of my darkest moments spent with my head against the subwoofers and feeling the pound of the drums and the massage of the bass and Eddie's voice soothing me while listening to this on repeat in the dark and completely feel rejuvenated. I can't explain it. For me, pearl jam makes everything better. You would see a grown man cry if I could ever meet them. For now, I'll just enjoy their art.

I am not a native English speaker so I am not sure what is the meaning behind this song, but I feel so emotional every time I hear it or sing it. When a talented person feel true emotion and write a song, and sing it.. you can feel the vibe. When a person write a song for commercial artist, make money by pleasing low level people with fake music, you cannot feel anything except trash. That's what happen in most of today's music.

I was 18 when Merkinball came out. IMO it's the single most important thing they ever did. You can feel the inward looking anger moving away. No Code and Yield are perfect lyrically, this is the 1st step.

First time I heard this song was in March of 2006 on "Scrubs" - just a few weeks after my best friend died. I was curled up in a blanket on the floor in front of the TV and just wept. It's been one of my favorite songs ever since. We all walk the long road.
