The shrimp and grits weren't prepared properly lol

Truest statement! If you want something sweet just eat cream of wheat. Sugar doesn’t belong in grits

I like when he says, "I like it." 😂

Grandma would have me go pick the blackberries and cherries that grew in our backyard. She'd bake them into cobblers for me. The best! I miss her so much

I love Black Berry Cobbler. My Granny was from Tennessee & she used to make it. I eat my grits with or without sugar. Daddy is from Ohio & used to put sugar in his grits & my Momma is from Tennessee she uses butter, salt and pepper.

I don't mess with pig or cow foot. They're entirely too gelatinous for me. BUT, I'll take the gravy over rice or rice and peas in a heartbeat! Y'all can have the "meat."

Both, bbq pigs feet and blackberry cobbler are a southern thing! When I was young, growing up in southern Georgia, we had cousins come down from New York, they had never seen a roasted sweet potato… we thought that was strange! Different regions, different foods! People eat what they are accustomed to, and sometimes they don’t eat a certain food even though that’s what is popular in their area. Different does not mean WRONG!

Y’all need to remake this video but actually have our Black American/Soul Food cuisine next time. I didn’t see any collard greens, Mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, black eyed peas, fried chicken, cornbread, fried fish, cabbage, and so forth. Come on cocoa butter

Edit: and pig feet/black berry cobbler isn’t a staple of our cuisine….

My mom’s from Texas. She made all the good soul food. She made grits with butter and sprinkled sugar on it. Mmmm, NOTHING wrong with THAT…. My husband discovered that I liked sugar on grits and said, “You’re crazy”….. Our oldest daughter agrees with him. They are on Team “Butter, Salt n’ Pepper”! I also ate grits with cheese and bacon seasoned with salt n’ pepper.
When my parents were first married, she made chitlins. My dad came home (A roomy first floor duplex) and was blown away by the smell. My dad is from Bristol, PA and was raised in a practically all Italian neighborhood. Apparently, he never had chitlins, although my Grammy was from Maryland. He forbade her from making it again, at least until we moved into a house with a backyard! He STILL never ate it. I ate it a little bit. One of my brothers loved it. I ate pickled pigs feet and head cheese when I was a kid and still like it, when I don’t think too much about how it’s made. My mother made beef tongue once. My dad went ballistic and to this day, I don’t know what beef tongue tastes like(not that I care!)…. My mother-in-law used to make headcheese when my husband was a kid🫣….. My husband was mortified.
…… I’m 61 years old and I definitely still eat soul food although not as much as I used to. I am a foodie and appreciate all kinds of cuisines. Judging from the comments from the tasters in this video younger people have moved away from soul food, I guess because they got the message that it’s gross or not healthy. What I would say is, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. I still don’t eat chitlins nor tongue though. The shrimp n’ grits in this video needs some work…
