Rome Burning vs. Gold & Limonite Noodler's Fountain Pen Ink

Noodler's Ink Rome Burning (now called "Rome") and Gold & Limonite fountain pen inks are so similar in color and yet completely different! I love both of these inks but use Rome Burning the most.

Rome Burning has a neat quality with its bright yellow to purple to brown/gold layers. Depending on how well you mix the ink or how you use it, it can have different looks! It is archival, bullet proof, forge resistant, and water resistant. It is considered a yellow ink where Gold & Limonite is a brown ink. I use this ink in my Relic Pens Thomas Jefferson fountain pen.

Gold & Limonite is a little more swampy looking than Rome Burning. When written with it is so close to Rome Burning with more of a nutty brown to gold color. It is forge resistant and water resistant. And is considered a brown ink where Rome Burning is a yellow ink. I have been keeping this ink in my Gravitas White Derlin fountain pen.

Both inks behave well with Rome Burning being more prone to slight feathering on more textured paper.

I used Onion Skin Journal paper, Tomoe River Paper, Flex Book paper, and Endless paper.

This was a fun comparison and I was actually curious about Gold and Limonite after seeing it on your channel recently. I have ROME and as I’m watching I decided to swatch it on several of my own papers. ☺️

Nice colors, thanks for showing!
I too like Gravitas for those micro grooved metal grip sections.
Distributes weight towards the nib. The black coated sections
are significant smoother but unfortunately don't come with every model.

Your swatches are so ‘neat’. Mine look like a two year old tried to water color. 🤭

That Tardif chickened-out, REALLY has me re-thinking buying any more of his ink. Pity.
