After serving a number of years as a squire, an earnest young commoner poses as a knight and establishes himself in the jousting tournaments of Europe. He and a princess fall in love, but she is unaware of his deceit and common roots. The false knight is estranged from the princess once his true roots are revealed. He struggles to amend their relationship.

Such a great scene. Using this moment between Adhemar and Jocelyn to explain the rules of jousting to an audience that obviously has no real idea how the sport works, all the while incorporating the arrogance of Adhemar to both flirt and mansplain to Jocelyn about it and insult William with his thorough knowledge and social status. And with few lines, all of Jocelyn's feelings towards Adhemar and Will are so clearly expressed. A genius bit of writing and directing.
