This was the first time Voiceplay worked with Ashley, she is a friend of Cesar. I have learned never to look away from the screen, because I might miss one of their comic or insider looks. When Ashley went up and back down on that amazing riff, all of the guys were just staring, dumbfounded (well, acting dumbfounded) so she could shrug her shoulders and ask "What?" It was hysterical.
This arrangement was Layne's; Geoff says he enjoys torturing him with the very high and very very low notes.
Thanx for reacting to this one, I always enjoy watching you. Get well soon!

Their arrangements are always incredible, they never go where you would expect. This is a cover of a modern pop cover of a a Broadway Musical/ Movie called Fiddler On The Roof. It's a story of a Jewish community during the Russian Revolution.

I remember this song from the 1971 musical, starring Chaim Topol in the lead role, who sang this song. My parents used to watch this over and over again, and had the soundtrack on vinyl (I may still have it somewhere), so the song is deeply ingrained in my psyche. I had forgotten all about it. It's strange how as soon they started singing, the movie scenes started playing in my head. Thanks for reacting to this song and taking me back to my early childhood. I'm going to go and play in the mud now.

Love this! It's a song from the musical Fiddler on the Roof. Love VoicePlays magic on it :)

Ashley is a powerhouse. I hope she gets to be a featured guest more often. And if you ever have a minute, you really should see Fiddler on the Roof. It’s amazing.

Ashley shows her comic side in this after her long descending riff by saying, "what." It's almost like she's saying, "you thought I couldn't sing like that?" at the shocked looks on their faces.

Your expressions said it all. The song is from a musical/film, Fiddler on the Roof. Gwen Stefani combined part of it with another song I believe, and VoicePlay have taken part of her style and the rest is the song from the original film, though with a verse of two left out. It's an amazing amalgamation. I was especially pleased to see you react to the little change of style at "a seat by the Eastern wall" at 4.04. as I've not seen any other reactor react to that.

I see that someone has suggested that you check out their latest. It’s a cover of the Aerosmith classic Dream On. If you do, I would suggest you watch the cover of Warriors by Imagine Dragons first. It had a similar feel -post apocalyptic. Somewhere on the Internet Geoff said that the zombies came and whisked Earl and J away. Time has passed and they found Omar and Cesar and they’re ready to do battle again. Many are calling this piece Warriors 2.0. I know that makes absolutely no sense right now but really after you watch them you’re going to understand.

Also Geoff has a new one coming out probably on Friday. It’s another remake of an American classic, but from my time, not my parents time: 1971. As usual it’s different enough to sound new and interesting but still pays homage to the original.

This is an adaptation of the version sung in FIddler on the Roof.

Here’s a link to the version from the movie “Fiddler on the Roof.” This is the one most people think about when they think “original” of this song:

This song is a huge reason I say no to making Omar a permanent member of VoicePlay. Keep the fifth spot open for Omar, Ashley, Jose, Rachel, and others to add to fantastic videos like this one, and Dream On, and Hoist the Colours.

Not the original. Not close. The original musical is from the '40's and quite dated. As always, beautifully arranged to update it and make it their own.
