So happy that the exercise was volleyball, because I couldn't see the reference very well but since I used to play volleyball at least I know and can intuite the poses and form. Like for a hit you run in, take off from 2 feet raise your non-dominant hand to keep you're core up right, pull your dominant arm back elbow and wrist bend like a spring coiled ready to snap up to the top of you're reach, then slamming down wrist leading as you finish in a straight armed seat belt position, bending you're knees slightly as you land to absorb the shock. I was and am aware for the mechanics truely but could never actually execute it but it's at least helpful, in this very niche application, I guess.
