Discovery 3 2.7TD loose alternator

Ive recently noticed a slight buzzing noise from the engine around 1200rpm. My initial inspection I found a couple of loose bolts on the timing cover and assumed that was the cause - wasnt too worried about it at the time and I was jus going to sort it during my next service. But since I had a few items from the front of the engine removed for the A/C compressor change out I figured it would be a good time to have a decent look.
Glad it did as I found the alternator bracket had snapped two bolt and was loose. Managed to get one of the broken pieces out, but unfortantly at this stage the other has me defeated. So Im just running with one bolt short at this stage, if the issue repeats itself then the other bolts can be more easily extracted and at that time I'll know what I gotta deal with and probably sort out a 90deg drill and a couple of reverse drill bits.

Anyway I'v never seen this issue with the disco before on any of the forums so may be something new to look out for?

I thought it was worth sharing this failure of the alternator bolts as its something I have not see or heard through out the various internet forums. Just something else that's worth keeping an eye out for. I do feel bummed that inner bolt defeated me, but at the time I just didn't have tooling to give it a proper crack.

Great idea cutting a slot with the dremel Shane, I'll have to remember that trick for those tight spots next time.

a couple of years ago, I had a bolt snap on the housing for the alternator and we had to do a body on engine out to get to one 8mm bolt.. Was an absolute nightmares but get there in the end!

I’ve see. This occur on Range Rover sport 2.7 a few times, thought is was bad luck but seeing this now I wonder 😮
