Turns out it was the mounting bolt of the alternator; it was loose enough to produce a rattle sound.

I had the same problem. Come to find out (and I have no clue how) the alternator bolts backed out of the threads, had a 2013 f350 6.2

I’ve had the same problem I changed crank pulley and the Idler pulley and the power steering pump no joy it was the alternator when you turned it by hand it seemed fine, but when the belt was pulling on it the knocking noise started!! Good video than you

The same here :) I was already suspected crankshaft bearings und it was such a tiny problem...

I had a somewhat similar noice in my Ridgeline. Replacing the alternator
worked for me. (I also had the idler pulley and all the timing belt
parts replaced, but the alternator was the one making the noice). The bolts were defo not loose :)

I’m confused.
Did you need to adjust the bolts or what?

Mine is literally doing the samething. It does it on idle and in between 1000 rmp and 1500 then it goes away after.

Wondering who put the alt in? There must be a lose nut somewhere or bad bushing?

did you replace the alternator?if so, did it stop the rattling? I have the same noise happening to me on my ford explorer, the noise only happens when the car is in drive, it especially gets loud at stop lights and or when the car is in drive and the brake is pressed

Had the same problem, no replacing anything just make sure every bolt is up to spec.. if the sound is any different then its different problem

Okay so what did you do ? Did you replace the alternator?

Hmm I was going to go straight in and rebuild mine with new bearings. Maybe I'll check the bolts first...

Mine was rattling, added 2 2mm spacers between the mounths of the alternator and my problem was solved

By changing the alternator issue has been fixed

Thanks for good information! my car has similar noise ( rattle noise occurs only on cold start + battery warning light from time to time, ) . I'll check the mounting bolts of the alternator, too.

Sounds more like your lifters. I took my belt off and started the engine and the sound went away. Put belt back on the sound came back. Used marvel mystery oil. That cleaned my lifters. and got rid of the tapping sound.
