DELTARUNE *Could* Still Release in 2024!

Toby Fox just released the Undertale anniversary edition of the Undertale / Deltarune newsletter. Let's dig through it to see what we can learn about the upcoming chapters!

I've gotten used to development updates coming out in the form of newsletter's. It's like a train rushing towards you but time always rolls back to repeat the cycle

But there will still be this moment, this day. And then we will be able to celebrate

I personally don't think this year is likely because of the console ports alone. Those things take time, and even after they're done there's a whole second round of bug testing and fixes that need to be done on those versions to ensure they're 100% accurate to PC. The JP translation literally just being the same as PC isn't a problem though, and neither is the new gamemaker feature as that would easily be finished by the time console ports are. I see an early 2025 release, should everything go to plan, probably some time in January or February, with us getting a release date trailer in December for the thematic aspects. Maybe a 2 month gap is too much, but if the trailer is dense then we can just pull a silksong and tear apart every pixel of that trailer until the release date, lol

Of course, I'd love to be proved wrong! The sooner we get to eat some [[delicis DELTARTUNE content]] the better!

I have a theory that every dark world looks like that screenshoot from ch 3 and when a new fountain is created, it adapts itself to the environment in which it was made, in this case the Dreemurr household and the TV. Maybe it looks like that in the beggining because the fountain was just created and didn't have time to adapt yet.

If it does release in 2025, I think Valentine’s day/February 14th would be a good date. It’s the same date we got the mysterious letter after all.

But yeah, I’m hoping for this December. I don’t know anything about video game testing or console porting so I have no idea how long it’s gonna take.

even if this game takes another 6+ months to release, it feels like the last newsletter came out yesterday and that was already a month ago! im sure the remaining time will fly by, even if it is a little longer than we might be hoping. (especially with trailers and more newsletters to keep us busy!!!)

I am SOO happy that finally a youtuber I've watched addressed the Chapter 3 screenshot's parallels to Goner Kid

Toby and crew might finish their work, but the game_change work might become the critical path. Highly depends on the details, but in late July he said it would "release" in "a few weeks". If "release" means general availability (or whatever term yoyo uses, ) and "few" means 3-5 then assuming the worst case of 5 weeks they are about 2 weeks behind schedule. However, it also could have meant released to Toby in which there's nothing to worry about. Though the gamemaker manual (in "full context" mode, ) displays it as "beta" and the xbox is not currently listed as a supported platform so I'm inclined to think it's not the best case scenario.

Probably worse, it said that the initial pass of translation is being worked on for chapter 4. He doesn't say which phase, but translation for chapter 3 started sometime between Halloween 2023 and Winter 2024. So, at best, it took 8 or so months to finish chapter 3's localization. I'll let you do the math on Chapter 4.

So yeah, between these two things I highly doubt it would come out this year. But hey, would be pleasantly surprised to be wrong.

I'm almost 99% sure we won't get it this year
I think either on Halloween or Christmas we will get another newsletter (or on both) from Toby where he will confirm the progress that has been made.
I'm expecting that Chapter 3 will be done fully except the console port maybe by the end of the year and Chapter 4 will be in a similar state to Chapter 3 rn

A release in February/March seems very likely to me though obviously I want it to be sooner lol

Also Might I just add how weird it will be having 2 chapters released at once? I kinda wish they would have come like half a year apart from each other because there will be no time to theorize and dissect chapter 3 before chapter 4...
That's a weird thing to wish for after having no chapters for 3 years but it's just something I thought about

My bet is that they will announce a release date on halloween (deltarune chapter 1 anniversary) and itll be for sometime in december, maybe christmas.

Here me out, it would be very Toby Fox to release the chapters on December 31st so he can say that it DID release in 2024
