My Asian genes does not allow me to metabolize alcohol and it becomes toxic in my system. When I drink alcohol I get really flushed, my head hurts and I get heart palpitations. This side effect is also called the Asian Glow or the Asian Flush.

Lived in Korea, and was shocked to see the difference. Some Koreans can drink to almost no limit, others react like this lady did. It was so strange to see such extremes! Soju, makguli, beer...all are much cheaper than alcohol in the US. Especially soju. Which also just blew my mind!

Honestly, that’s why I hated drinking for a long time, and I always felt like everyone had more fun being drunk than me! BUT if you take Pepcid AC a half hour before you start drinking, it coats your stomachs. The “gene” is basically that we don’t have the enzyme (alcohol dehydrogenase) that breaks down alcohol, so Pepcid helps with the symptoms!
