trout fishing with a rooster tail spinner

I'm fishing from the bank with a rooster tail spinner in this video. the first part I was fishing at a lake trolling with a rooster tail. the presentation is pretty straight forward: cast out as far as you can and "SLOWLY" reel it in; sometime you want to twitch your rod and pause for a brief moment.

for trout fishing, I'm using a 1/8 oz rooster tail spinner. stocked trout aren't so big so any bigger size might produce less bite. I use a 7'6" rod that is rated at light action. line weight for the rod is at 4-10 #.

I was using different colors of rooster tails, and didn't find one color that worked the best; it seems trying different colors is the key. mix it up if one color don't work and always make sure to vary your retrieve speed.

thanks for watching.

*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

Rooster tails were the first spinners I ever fished with and caught rainbow trout in the eastern sierras here in California. I never fished with other spinners until years later. The yellow color or bee I think it was caught the most fish.

(Skagit County area Washington) At Big lake I use rooster tails colors, red with a silver spinner and green rooster with a silver spinner for catfish, sometimes bass hit too. For Lake Cavanaugh, I use red or a brown feather with a copper spinner and if its late afternoon I use a bright yellow with silver for Rainbows, and for KokaneeI. I always love using rooster tails since I was a kid on and now I still share the same tools to my kiddos to find their own surprise fish coming out of the deep. Fun times. Thanks for the video, I always keeping up with your shows. Great job!!

Hello Pk Yi
I try fishing for trout in upstate ny with my grandson. I use rooster tails fishing from the bank, and while fishing from a canoe. The last week of May I can catch some to fry over open fire, then they shut down. I enjoyed your video's here on YouTube. Thanks for your tips

Good video. thanks. I dont use rooster tails very often, but i do have 3 of them. I use the rooster tails for catching lake trout here in Central CA as well as the Lake Tahoe area. Last time i used a rooster tail at a lake, i caught a 14" bass.

I use them for trout and a 1/8oz white with a half of night crawler works good for just about anything. Nice fish catches

Trout for sure up in Idaho on some freestone rivers. I used rainbow color and got about 10 on 2 hours. Fun stuff. I like your idea of cutting off two hooks so I’m going to start doing that

I applaud your technique, the rooster is a great trout lure.Would you consider using a landing net they don't seem to get used much here in the states. I use the net (telescoping variety) so I can keep it clipped to my side I can enjoy playing the fish more before bringing it to shore. the fish is more tired and moves less before hook removal. when landing I place the fish onto a folded wet towel to minimize contact and help me get it back into the water safely. the only time I extend the time period is when I photograph a worthy sized specimen. thank you for sharing I really enjoyed the video.

PK I use rooster tails and have caught bass, bluegill, trout and crappie sometimes. Rooster tails are some of the best lures out and have been around a long time! I caught 16 trout on a white one last time I went out, sooo much fun!!

PK I fish for trout but manage to catch some bluegill too now and then. If I could only choose one color, I'd go with white. White spinners seem to be the best overall for me.

I fish a lot for trout in West Virgina using rooster tails. I have found them to be very effective also for crappie, blue gill, and one caught a yellow perch with one. The most productive colors have been: white, silver, green, brown, and black. Mostly natural colors.
