Shifter Lines 114: Chess by gUBBLOR

Rules:

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1 through 9 in each empty cell. Digits must not repeat within the same row, column, or box.

Shifter lines: Adjacent digits within the same box on a shifter line share both parity (even/odd) AND polarity (low/high). Whenever the line enters a new box either the parity OR the polarity shifts, never both. Shifter lines can never have 5 on it. Digits may repeat on lines.

Kropki dots: A black dot between cells indicates cell values with a 2:1 ratio. Not all dots are shown.

Chess lines: All shifter lines are also chess lines. Adjacent digits on a line must form a valid chess move by the indicated piece on a 3x3 numpad. Some examples of a given digit and all valid candidates for cells next to it on the line:
- Knight (R3C2+R3C7+R3C9): 3➔48, 7➔26
- King (R6C4+R8C3): 1➔425, 8➔74569
- Bishop (R1C3+R2C3+R6C5): 2➔46, 7➔53
- Rook (R6C2+R8C6): 5➔2468, 9➔7863
- Pawn (R1C7+R3C6): 6➔39, 7➔4, 2➔5
- Queen (R5C2): 3➔125679, 4➔785612

Very nice solve, and thank you for the kind words! I really do hope more chess line puzzles are constructed, they are just fantastic!

It seemed hard but it wasn't. I coloured odds and evens this time and it was very doable. The way you solved is smart!

21 minutes. Usually i get more stuck with these shifter lines but probably chess helped. These knight lines were interesting like some kind of really restricted white dot.

The description of the lines says they can't have a 5 on them. The examples of using the lines from the chess point of view has lots of 5s.

00:55:01 It's actually solvable even if you allow pawns to move diagonally like a capture

A decent 33 minutes and 28 seconds. Probably could have shaved a good ten minutes off if I didn't twice forget that the lines were shifter lines which eliminated quite a few possibilities on each...

The chess lines caused me some difficulty from time to time, especially after I had pencil-marked a line and forgotten about which of (for example) 1 or 3 connects to 7 or 9. I got stuck a few times, and had to go back to each line to see if there was a connection I hadn't noticed. Still quite a fun puzzle! My time today was 32:08, solver number 178.

I'm really struggling with this rule set: chess pieces don't jump, except for Knights! So, how's it legal for r8c6 and r9c6 to be 7 and 9? A Rook cannot jump from 7 to 9 or viceversa???
