Sofia Coppola's films last Oscar nominations are literally two whole decades ago with Lost in Translation (2003). She made many good films since then but never good enough for the Academy. I LOVED The Beguiled (2017) and it should have gotten Director and Acting noms imo. She won Best Director in Cannes for it.

I don’t care if she’s your girlfriend, you’re still two of my favourite gay icons on YouTube

I really loved this, but I am an aggressive Coppola stan. Agree with BrotherBro that we weren't immersed in the Elvis of it all in the beginning, which was a huge part of the story obviously and that l along with some different choices in the last third would've presented a little more "color" to the relationship I thought Cailee Spaeny did such a strong job, and Jacob Elordi is a movie star. Great observation on the framing from Mrs. OscarExpert.

Another hit for the girls, the gays and the theys for Sofia Coppola.

Sofía has her own unique style that is very different from what the Oscars usually like

Another thing is that this film for an example only her die hard Fans find amazing or the critics nerds who feel THEY HAVE TO LIKE IT.

I think its definitely interesting to compare the two Elvis films we've gotten lately.... Baz's Elvis sort of painted him as a saint, a victim of the people around him particularly his manager. A sort of do gooder who made it big but had some not so great people around him who held him back. This film shows some of that, but it also shines a light on Elvis as being not quite as wholesome as the first movie suggests. He had his own demons and was often his own problem too.

I adored Priscilla. My favorite of 2023 after Past Lives. Cailee Spaeny is so empathetic as you just get to feel how lonely Priscilla must have felt waiting around for Elvis' various returns. Sofia Coppola is a fantastic director.

8/10 I agree. Good film, rewatchable, and I think Elordi has the best performance of the runtime. Might see his name pop up this awards season. The voice, the mannerisms, and the look… he was clear cut the better Elvis. Really gunning for him. Loved him in Saltburn and Euphoria

Btw I think this is definitely in for costumes. I don't think Maestro has a better shot than it

I loved the film. I think Sofia Coppola really threw out all the glitz and glamour and broke it down to the basics of the relationship. It was very realistic and dark. It shows how screwed up their dating years and marriage actually were. Elvis was playing around with other women while Priscilla was sitting alone at Graceland waiting for him. I found both of the performances very good. I really liked Jacob Elordi's take on Elvis. He was superb and far more realistic than Austin Butler's portrayal last year.

I think Spaeny may be a surprise on Oscar morning. Need to see if The Color Purple flops or not.

I think Elordi gets GG/SAG noms and that’s it

This movie sucked - easily Sofia Coppola's worst movie - had literally nothing to say.

I really didn’t like this movie AT ALL. I have read Elvis and Me book and it made me uncomfortable reading it. Then, I watched the tv movie based on the book. Again, I was uncomfortable. The lighting director on this film should have been fired because it was way too dark. Elvis was not super tall and I found Jacob Elordi an odd choice for this role. This movie seems like a get back at you film and answer to the movie Elvis. I think this film was unnecessary and didn’t need to be made. That’s just me.
