the fact that Priscilla only had 10 minutes in Elvis, while Elvis is in practically all of Priscilla is very telling. While to him she wasn’t that much of a big, long term part of his life he was everything to her. genuinely makes me so sick

Anyone else find it crazy how she actually looked the ages she was supposed to be throughout the movie? Wild how she looked 14

I really hate seeing comments like "Uhhhh why are we getting another Elvis movie, no one can top Austin Butler". Dude, the movie is called PRISCILLA, not Elvis.

I think it takes a girl to know how scary ur first bf is. So watching this, I was anxious most of the time even when the scenes felt small. It’s the small things that lead to the big problems

there’s a reason Priscilla wasn’t in Elvis much and why she was so poorly casted. Not only is she something they have to mention with a grain of salt because of the inappropriate age, grooming and abuse, but she’s also an afterthought to these people. She’s something pretty to use and have on Elvis’ arm and emotional support to a fully grown man. The actress chosen didn’t look like her, have her mannerisms or voice, they just casted someone and basically said you’re Priscilla Presley. Cailee and Sofia finally gave Priscilla the opportunity to have her story be told and for that I am eternally grateful.

I’m so glad this movie was made, so many young girls (13-16), have. experienced being pursued and held in the wings by adult “rock stars” or musicians or celebrities, and we always see the headlines and articles about those men but we never hear the stories of these young girls and how their lives were permanently altered. As someone who lived a similar experience when I was 14, this movie helped me come to terms with my own trauma, It really is so meaningful and it’s a shame so many adult men who adore Elvis don’t seem to understand. I think the movie left a little to be desired, but I love how it simply told the story as is, from Priscilla’s perspective, it wasn’t nearly as villain i zing as I thought it would be, and that’s important because it shows how it all felt to her.

Cailee Spaeny is the definition of A Star Is Born right here. At 25 year old, she just won the Volpi Cup Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival and finger cross that she's going to be Oscar nominated. Absolutely fascinating to hear it, congrats to Cailee. Can't wait to see Priscilla and more stuff she's going to do in the future, Sofia Coppola couldn't have pick the right person to play Priscilla 🙌

the movie probably didnt go so far in certain places because Lisa Marie (Priscilla and Elvis's daughter) before she died got sent a first script of the movie and begged Sofia not to make it, so most likely because of that they changed certain things

Priscilla was so good. So so good.

I think most people forget the age balance in country and rock at that time was severely unbalanced. The men, predatory and the girls no more than teens, children. From Priscilla Presley to Loretta Lynn, it’s so predatory and so sad. It’s a lesson and a reality everyone need to learn and a reality check so many need to have.

I think it felt like it was missing something was bc priscilla was a part of making the production and she is still very much in denial about some things that happened to her. This movie is basically like things she still doesnt realize were wrong and so she doesnt feel bad for talking about it.

I'm a big fan of Elvis' music and the Baz Luhrmann movie, but even as someone who knew very little about the guy I was shocked at how that movie glossed over so many of his problematic elements. I'll definitely give this a watch when it comes to the UK next year

Honestly, perfect directors for both. Elvis’s persona, big and bold and a little superficial. Great Luhrmann stuff. A lonely but wealthy young woman in a world that swallows her? Great for Coppola. I tend to always feel like something is missing in the latter’s work save for Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation, so I’m not surprised to hear your take. I will definitely still check it out.

loved priscilla, and glad i saw it after elvis. i think they play on each other in an interesting way - seeing what the colonel was doing to elvis repeated here with what he does to priscilla.

priscilla was like a perfume commercial mixed with a lana del ray music video.

If you enjoyed this more quiet biopic with amazing (yet not really over the top) performances, I highly suggest the 2007 joy division biopic titled “control” . It really is something special

What the movie's missing is an extra scene at the end, where now as a mother with a daughter of her own, she goes back to talk to her parents, like the shoe hanging over her talk with her mom in the kitchen all those years ago finally dropped and she now comes back with her own perspective.
Would've really brought the story full circle.

I immediately liked that this movie is its own thing, not trying to hit the stereotypical "biopic" beats you've seen 100 times. Felt like they were just telling a real relationship dynamic as authentically as they could. And it really worked, the _lack of Elvis music_ throughout, as we just got the highlight reel last year, this movie focused on the type of music that Elvis and 'Scilla would be listening to when he isn't at work.

Overall I respect the hell out of this movie and its approach.

I don’t always agree with you but you hit the nail on the head with this one. My big takeaway from these two movies was just how small of a part of Elvis’ life Priscilla was unfortunately.
