This is perfect timing for me Nate, my Chester Cheetah comes in tomorrow!. As always you are doing great things out there. I'm a network engineer of 16 years and your content is really easy for non-technical people to follow as well. Great work.

I ordered my Chester yesterday thanks to your recommendation and used your code. I spoke to the owner before ordering by phone and he was a nice guy and knowledgeable. Great recommendation! Now I just have to wait for them to build one and send out.

Thanks (again) Nate for the info that actually helps us all learn. 😊

I found that when connected in SA mode you do not get a valid response back. Not sure if this is expected but thought anyone who sees a partial or invalid response from the AT commands would like to know so they can check. After switching back to NSA mode, it worked as expected.

Can u turn off the routing function of tge cheetah and just use as a modem? My amplifi alien wifi mess has to be the router in my system or it doesn't work. With 2 routers fighting each other it causes all kinds of issues

One thing I want to point out.

At least for my area, cellmapper is hilariously inaccurate in terms of where the towers are actually located. For some reason it thinks the tower I connect to is around 4-5 miles east of me when in reality it's 2 miles south. I think what happens is the freeway is east of me, and a lot of people connect to it from the freeway so it's triangulated it over there instead of where it's at. I also live in a mountainous region and the local geography is not kind to cell signals.

If you can't get your provider to give you the cell tower location you can actually look up the tower with FCC data. Not all towers are on there though and Google searches can be hit or miss on the tower ID which I've been told by the RF engineer for T-Mobile in my area is different than the eNB ID.

You can also join your community's local FB pages and just ask. I'm just somebody has driven by the tower enough or lives next to it and can tell you. I'm sure there are also devices too that let you know which direction.

Were there any APN settings that you needed to input into the router when using a t-mobile sim or did it provision automatically? I'm waiting for a sim card in the mail from tmo for a new line of service that I'm going to use for this type of gateway.

You're really liking that Chester unit aren't ya? Got one myself. Funny how us cellular internet pioneers have evolved past using the junky gateways provided by the carriers. I remember the good ol days with the white tissue box. 😜

My cell location used to be 316 miles from my address straight south. Then it moved to about 85 miles southeast. It was about 1500 miles from my location at one point.
Today I searched for Menards and it wanted to use my precise location. I granted it and it had me about 350 miles to the northeast.
I don't need a VPN because T-mobile has me all over the country.
They have 3 towers within 1 to 2 miles of my house. It has me baffled.
