It is time to speak about lost Nungambakkam tank, Long tank, Spur tank chennai. To rectify a mistake first accept the mistake

Nungambakkam lake, long tank forms part of Tnagar, Mambalam, CIT nagar etc.... If people build house in lakes obviously it will/shall get flooded.

Evidence: Tank bund road, Lake view road, Erikarai Mariamman maps before 100 years it was once a huge lake.

The residents (Chennai corporation has no money) can solve the problem that is created in the rain water drain. The rain water drain is contracted to multiple contractors and they do not ensure that the parts of construction which they undertake is connected to the other parts constructed by other contractors. So these rain water drains that you see on your streets is acting as a storage tank. Find a PWD engineer retired/in service and ask his/her help to approach the corporation to relay those parts where the water is not flowing. If the corporation claims they do not have money, the residents can collect money among themselves and get it repaired so that you are saved of this head ache every monsoon. In most cases, corporation will oblige with the labourers to do the job. The problem is only about who will pay for it. If your resident associations are resourceful then get it done at your cost to get over this issue.

Also, check with Corporation if they can assist in building Rain Water Harvesting pits on your street. They will certainly assist. Here again it is all about who will pay.
