Brainstorming BlackBerry 10: I want to 'pin' an Active Frame?!

In this video we take a look at Active Frames on BlackBerry 10, and the idea of being able to "pin" an open app, so that it never closes.... and maybe sits in the same spot all the time. Check out the video above...

Great idea! BBM is a good example, but it could be used for other apps like the web browser. I check my web browser, when I'm free but I'm sure I'll prob be frustrated having to go back and reopen the app. When you look at it, "pinning" an app in active frames really is no different from favourites on OS6 and OS7. I haven't used my Playbook in a while, don't remember if it has favourites.

Great idea, addition of small "pin it" button is going to work. But that will mess the complete task scheduling mechanism that is currently used. Another thing, RIM can change the max limit of open apps, lets say 16, with improved memory management.

I hope we get an early build of BB10 for our playbook.

I like that idea! There should at least be 1 or 2 that you can keep at the top for convenience, and everything else can still keep flowing.

Infact, you do not need BBM app. It can be sync in the Blackberry Hub. I pray...RIM will not postpone product launch by implementing this...I can't wait anymore to get it.

That seems like the case, but really you shouldn't have to worry.

It would make sense not to leave more demanding graphical or processor heavy applications like games running in you background (save battery life), and 8 apps seems like enough to be able to pause to check browser/music/emails or other notifications.

Pull down notification can't be integrated to BB10 cause pulling down from the top already has a function for everywhere. mostly it's for opening up the settings/options of an app.. PEEK is for notification..

thats a great idea. They should definitely do that. There are a few apps apart from bbm that always need to be opened for me

A little off the topic of BB10 but didn't blackberrys had like 4 or 5 apps always running in the background? When you try to switch applications, theres always the messages, browser, phone and home icons. In any case, I can't wait for this phone to come out. I really love typing on my BB but I want more display real estate. This full touchscreen BB should satisfy my need.

What a great idea we should flood RIM with this idea for a update or something.

I think that "pinning" it defeats the purpose if that interface. Think about it. You said you use BBM all the time and it is one of your most used apps. If that is the case, BBM will always keep working itself to the top essentially "pinning" itself to that top area. In a sense, just like your most used programs in Windows stay on your Start screen. Hope that makes sense.

Can't agree more. Active frame are good but I still want to arrange them, if not so please RIM we want to pin an Active frame.

I really wants it, but I don't think RIM will do it for now :(

That's a good thought. Having 8 apps open is plenty. Browser, BBM, G+, Contacts and maybe one game. You'll most likely close the game when ur done playing.

Great idea ! RIM should definitley do that ! or maybe they could make something special for multitasking with social apps, cus i always want my social apps running on my bb bold 9790 #teamBB10

BBM is probably not a good example to quote since BBM is always in the hub along with all other messaging.

Apart from that, you really don't need pinning. If you used an application frequently enough it will always be on your top 8 applications used. The frequency you use something by virtue will always be on the top list. If you didn't use something frequently enough it would drop off naturally.

Pinning is counter intuitive to flow. It is old style conditional thinking.

Pin is a great idea. Also noticed then dev alpha b runs a whole lot better than than the original.

BB 10 should have Notification pull down like iOS and Android. Doers and achievers need em. At least for me that is a must.

The active frames lists the programs that BB10 is -running-... If you want to "pin" certain apps at fixed locations, isn't that what the app grid is for?

The idea itself is not that important because no one keeps 8 active frames at the same time. You may use max 4-5 apps at the same time but thats it and in this case BBM never goes away. As someone already said, you're going to adapt to new OS. BB10 is not like Android where you switch to Home screen and forget about the app you just closed but instead in BB10 it'll just be there waiting for you to close it when you dont need it.
