I always liked the rarely-explored psychological horror aspect of Fallout; the idea that the Mysterious Stranger is somewhere between a ghost, a hallucination and an actual creature caught between worlds really appealled to me

My biggest question is

“Is atom related to magic and gods or is this all superstition”

I believe our stranger is using some sort of tech to disappear and reappear but more over him being a synth is not really lining up nor is the ghoul with minimal scaring I think the thought is a multi generational family performing the same trick to our protagonist character.

I have a mystery of my own. In FO76 in one of the mines for the Lode barring event, I think it was Abandoned Mine Site Kittery. In a terminal by the entrance there is an audio holo tape of two people in the mine who got a garbled Nuke launch message and there a Nuke blast. If I am not wrong I don’t think there was a nuke blast anywhere in West Virginia that could have been felt. The tape is Mine recorder tape - 10.23.77

In the original I think it was just to give something to the luck stat. Luck didn’t do much. It increased your likelihood of some good random events, the mysterious stranger among them

Also sometimes you find caches of weapons, stimpacks, ammo, etc

Therefore I think he’s exactly what it says on the tin. He’s a stranger who happened to be there and happened to help. I think later games missed the point when they said “this is always the same guy”

I'd like to think that since Nick is a synth with a personality change programmed into him, I think the mysterious stranger is actually the real Nick Valentine, and that The Nick Valentine we know is just a robot.

I'd say 'The Mysterious Stranger' is similar to Dogmeat, a spirit specific to the Wasteland, who helps out the player when and where they can.
