A 5-year-old Connecticut girl is recovering from minor injuries after she was attacked by a raccoon on her family’s front porch in an incident that was captured on video.

I had something similar happen to me last night, I had a Raccoon start chasing me near a bonfire with 30+ people. I punted it about 25 yards the first time that it tried to bite my leg. Then it chased me again. I ran in circles around my car until I got the chance for another kick, which gave me enough time to retrieve a Wooden mallet with a long handle that I made myself and I had just enough time to turn around and break it's spine with the first blow and then stove its head in with the second. The thing was viscous. The kids and women at the fire were freaking out. I had my bright Raiobi work-lite and everyone could see everything. most agreed that it was acting rabid especially when it continued it's attack after being kicked considerable distance with logging boots. Iv spent my entire life as a hunter/ farmer in Vermont. Never seen any wild animal act so aggressively.

The raccoon most likely had rabies. They usually aren't like this.

All adults should listen several times to how this child is screaming. This is true pain and terror. So many times we hear children screaming and just ignore them because we think they're okay. This scream is the scream that should get every adult within earshot running to the rescue. Also, teach your children when they are playing that laughter and squealing are ok but screaming is not. Screaming should be taught to be used when they are in danger.

That’s terrifying even though it was a raccoon, the most they do is hiss at you if they feel threatened but this one most definitely had rabies.

My heart rattles at the sound of the girl screaming, that is the type of scream no parent wants to hear. Its pure panic and terror. Good on the mom for being so fast and brave about it.
