I have struggled with tourettes for 12 years, I’ve had them be severe and I’ve had ghost periods, I’ve really seen it all, and I think you did a really great job explaining it.

Thank you for taking the time to look into it and talk about it to help de-stigmatize it.

Much love for you always<33

I have tics and one of mine has always been flapping my arms around, especially when I’m happy. I have another where I end up making laser sounds 💀

When I was 14 I developed tics from a combo of my severe anxiety mixing with my adhd. I don’t understand why anyone would WANT tics. They are painful when they trap my body in an uncomfortable postion, I annoy my family by shouting out random phrases (one of my tics was saying “your a pretty bird!” In a high pitch voice it was awful)

Brilliant explanation! I don't have tourettes but I experience verbal and motor tics due to something called FND (Functional Neurological Disorder)

I can tell you right now from first-hand experience it is not rare. I have severe crippling OCD and I can't even tell anybody about it. Because the moment I say I have it they say they have it too. I'm sure some of them really did have it but I'm telling you out of the 150 people I've told 150 people have it. They usually start describing some mundane tasks like folding towels which makes them OCD clearly

Thank you so so much for explaining. I’ve been suffering from Tourette’s since kindergarten and seeing someone explain it is the most amazing thing ❤❤❤

It holds you back so much in life. It makes it so that you don’t want to goto job interviews, you don’t want to go on dates, you don’t want to be in high volume public places etc. But the trade-off is that it makes your mind very different than the people around you, and so you see the world and you can break it down in a new and different way. The best way I can explain it is to think of the feeling you have when you have way too much caffeine, not just a little bit too much, like way way way too much. You feel uncomfortable and overstimulated and like you’re moving in multiple directions at once

I've been struggling with 2 minor tics for a while. The worst one is what sound slime a scoff. I have to explain to people that I'm not annoyed or downplaying their words, I just a tic.

Technically since I have both a vocal and non-vocal it's tourette's, but it's not severe enough that I'm gonna do something to mitigate it.

There's a guy who runs a news paper shop he has a verbal tick of making different bird calls I just think it's amazing he can even replicate the bird song so well but he said it was something he sort of had to train so instead of word's he would practice these bird calls 😮

Not to mention, tourettes isn't always noticeable. Mine use to be(vocal tics and big movements) to now only having facial movements and minor body movements. Not all tics are loud and distracting, some are quiet and small. It's a huge scale of level and sound.

I had anxiety tics for about 6 months during one of roughest patches in my life when I was 12. It was horrifying, scary, and honestly annoying. They ended up fading, which I am insanely happy about.

ive got functunal neurological disorder, which basically means that the auto pilot part of my brain is over active and the part of my brain thats supposed to tell it to shut up isn't doing its job properly.
as a result i have "tic like behaviors"
it functions just like tics, but they aren't technically tics bc of the way the brain makes them happen.

After I was just recently diagnosed with motor tics that aren’t major, but I do get a lot of weird looks, and have been judged for it as well. Thank you for explaining it so well for those who don’t know what Tourette’s syndrome is!

I do not have Tourette’s all I know is that I act like a parrot and repeat everything people say and I absolutely don’t mean to sometimes I just have to check to see if I heard them correctly so if I say it back to my self then I understand it better

I appreciate you explaining that. I have tourette syndrome and I find it hard to truly explain how it is to people.

A child down the street had this. Our eldest is autistic with autistic behaviours. My daughter bought two of the younger children over and her child displayed his tics. They just thought they were autistic displays, and waited to he was doe and told him it was his turn at the game. . The mom was so amazed.
