Hi everyone!
The big book summer challenge is one of my favorite events on booktube. It has been ran by @SueJacksonDE for several years.

It is super easy to participate. Simply read a big book this summer. My TBR focuses on books that I have as part of my projects for 2024. I love a big book! ❤️

January - No selection
February - The Princes of Cleves by Madame de LaFayette
March - The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall
April - Hideous Kinky by Esther Freud
May - The Waves by Virginia Woolf
June - Love's Work by Gillian Rose
July - The Flame Throwers by Rachel Kushner
August - No Selection
September - The Last September by Elizabeth Bowen
October - The Real Charlotte by Edith Sommerville and Martin Ross
November - Anagrams by Lorrie Moore
December - The Life and Death of Harriet Frean by May Sinclair

The 1001 Book Countdown is a passion project where I am reading all of the books in the 1001 Books you must read before you die list by Peter Boxall. I combined all editions of the list so there are actually 1315 books all total to read. I started my reading project on YouTube in 2021 and have been documenting my way through the last 1001 books. I hope you enjoy watching me make my way through this MASSIVE project!

Oh my God, Tirant Lo Blanc!! It was compulsory reading when I was in highschool here in Barcelona! I was so surprised to see it in your TBR, I've never seen it mentioned in an English booktube channel. It was a tough read but I think that was because I think I was a bit too young to fully appreciate and comprehend it, but I remember it having very funny moments!

I started talking to Sue Jackson when she only had 500 subscribers! I'm glad she's getting more attention!

That looks like a nice diverse range of genres for the big book challenge. I'm always inspired by your ability to make a TBR and keep to it! That Gertrude Stein one looks like a doozy.
Good luck with your summer reading Sandy!😊

Wow that's a stack of mammoths! I just started These Truths by Jill Lepore so I will definitely have one that qualifies. I may add something else in August, but we'll see. I've already read a few big books this year so I'm okay with my limited number this summer when I'll be doing less reading.

Lol, glad I'm not the only one who ended up putting mostly mammoths on my list. And now I'm tempted to add The Good Soldier Sjvek on there as well...we'll see!

You have really made a challenge there! I have one on my TBR The Count of Monte Cristo. I has been on my shelf for over 3 years and I am so anxious to read it. Heard so many people love it and I'm hyped. Just waiting for the audio from Libby to use as well as print. Good luck with yours.

And then Ordinary Monsters and A System So Magnificent It Is Blinding on deck. I might move up system so mag because I love the title and cover. I also have the Paoloni - hmmmm

Sue's definition for a big book is 400+ pages, so all of your books definitely qualify!

Sue said anything over 400 pages is a 'Big Book' ! You went diehard! 😂
I am doing Big Book Summer, but I don't have a TBR for it. I'm just going to count them when I read them! I know the Mistborn books will count. I have The Doomsday Book by Willis, Wall of Storms by Liu (on hold 2 library), that I know will be read sometime this summer also.

'It' is also one i'd like to read. I currently have James Clavell's 'Shōgun' staring at me from my coffee table. With 1123 pages it's quite a chunker too. I'm going to try to start it this weekend. 😂

Great TBR! I’ve been wanting to try that Paolini book since it came out, but I got scared off because i heard some mixed things. I’ll be reading The Tale of Genji and continuing my reread through the Stormlight Archives, and rereading Mistborn, so that is probably as ambitious as I will get!

I am determined to read all of Tale of Genji. It is something I have wanted to read for over a year and this summer I am doing it !!! Just that no other huge books however.

Hi Sandy. I don't know if you'd be interested in this but I just realized I've almost got my own little book countdown going on. I had lots of books lined up to read before I started watching book tube videos but since then I've gone book crazy even though I'm a slow reader, partly because I like to read alound sometimes. I have a book shelf with books I bought a while ago and then newer books in boxes in my closet. I have to do things systematically so quite a while ago I started rotating between the books on my shelf and the books in the boxes. I'll be 68 years old in July so I don't know how I'm ever going to get through these books but it is a goal. I also have been getting books from the library which I slip in between. Right now I'm reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt which was recommended by Susan at Road Reads. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you about that. Your channel is one of my favorites and I've purchased or gotten from the library many of the books you've recommended. I haven't counted the books I have. Maybe I should do that though. I have about 12 boxes of books.
