I have, the last year or so, been reading and listening to everything now. I walk everywhere so I listen to what I'm reading while I walk. I burn through books now, just a lot more expensive.

The Wandering Inn by Pirate Aba is not completed yet, but is already twice the length of the wheel of time. It’s a progression lit/rpg which, if your thinking ‘that sounds shite’ that’s what I thought. Till I read book 1 and gave it 5 stars. The first book is 1200 pages long. I think book 2 is twice as big. It’s great. I’ll be releasing a spoiler free video about it in a few weeks

I get what you're saying about word count being the best measure of a book's length. I think it's worth considering that some books just read a lot faster than others. Pacing and prose are just two of many things that affect whether an 800 page book takes me 2 days or 2 weeks to read!

Doesn’t matter if you haven’t read Name of the Wind in a while. At first, while reading the First Binding, I was like “hey, this kinda sounds like the name of the wind. Kinda similar but since book 3 will never come out this is a breath of fresh air!” Then I continued reading, and got so mad at it that I was shouting at the audiobook in my car. It’s not inspired by the name of the wind, it’s not “reminiscent” of the name of the wind. It IS the name of the wind with different names. I had to DNF at 30%. I’ve never hated a book so much in my life.

Would really like to hear how you find Sons of Darkness. Gets my vote 😅

I love Licanius so much! Didn't realise people were mentioning it has time travel, isn't that a bit spoilery? 😂I might not have finished many fantasy series, but I'm glad I finished Licanius.

I know I'm late to the party here, but The Name of the Wind is my favorite book since I read it the first time in 2008 and I really loved the First Binding too. I can see why some people would be really put off by the similarities between the two, but they didn't bother me. There are enough differences, and the story seems to go it's own direction for the last 25% that I didn't get the feeling that book 2 will follow Wise Man's Fear nearly as closely as The First Binding seemed to hit beats from The Name of the Wind.

I really hope you enjoy The First Binding! Wish I could get my hands on the edition you have. Love the black pages and the foil!

I'm rereading The Dragon Reborn right now in preparation for me buying the rest of the series (I have the first 7, only read the first 6). I love it so far, and it's my favorite.

So many of these are on my list too! Also a slow reader, trying hard to get finish more series than I finish right now. Currently finishing off the Novels of the Malazan Empire.
Glad that Sons of Darkness is becoming available again, I want to pick that up

Loved the green bone saga. 5 star series because of the endings. Loved Illborn, so excited for Sin. I'm on Darkness and light as my next book on tbr after I finish Words of Radiance. I am very excited for both of these series. I was in a slump when I tried First binding. I will be giving it another try down the road. Licanius trilogy was amazing!!! I loved the puzzle of the time lines. It wasn't overly complicated, but enough for you to celebrate when pieces fall into place. You have sold me on your. Channel. Subscribed!

Time travel is such a difficult framework to pull off without countless, self-exacerbating contradictions. This is probably why it’s mostly shorter books, because there’s not the space to really see the above develop to the detriment of the overall plot. Any longer book/story that pulls it off is really something worth noting!

I have the hardcover Of War and Ruin, they had to compress the print size so much from the previous novel and still is massive. I think in Kindle its 1, 400 pages, massive. The Exile was fantastic, there is another novella announced. I have heard so many mixed reviews on the First Binding.

I have read up to book 9 of the WOT, but even though I own all of the books I have never finished the series - Its been a long time since I read the series (due to the gap between books 9 and 10 yes it has been that long since I read them) - so I would need to read the whole thing from the start and I just don't have the time.

I can only read 100 pages per day. I get bored and I have to do something else. I'm thankful for audiobooks. I can listen to them all-day 😌

Just found your channel and subscribed. Now I'm intrigued by additional series that are as long as the long ones I already can't get to! 😂 May I ask how you find word count? I have tried unsuccessfully to find that info for some books.

I'm pretty new to fantasy. I'm about 5.5 long books into Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings collection of series. Dying to start Stormlight Archive, but who know when I'll get to it. I want to tackle War and Peace before starting more Sanderson. So many others as well... Wish I could read faster!

Empire of the Vampire in hard back was so chunky I had to use my book chair as it felt like weight training after a few chapters. Wheel of time takes up a whole shelf, enjoy the journey :)
I couldn't continue reading The First Binding. I got about a quarter in and just dropped it, something I find really hard to do as I've already invested time in it but I just wasn't enjoying it. I was told it was like Name of The wind, which I haven't read yet. I picked up Name of the Wind at my local book shop, read the back and it was so close to the First Binding that I decided not to buy it. It's almost word for word. Let us know how you get on with it, it might just of been wrong book at the wrong time for me.
