Difficulty breathing can be a symptom of various conditions including Anxiety Disorders, Asthma, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Anxiety Disorders are characterized by excessive worry or fear, restlessness, sleep disturbances, and episodes of panic, among other symptoms.
Asthma presents with symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest tightness or pain, and wheezing. These symptoms can worsen with triggers like exercise, cold air, or allergens.
COPD patients often experience a chronic cough that produces mucus, frequent respiratory infections, fatigue, and shortness of breath. The symptoms usually present gradually and worsen over time.
The term "can't catch their breath" is used to describe a sensation of breathlessness or difficulty breathing.
Anxiety disorders don't have a specific blood test for diagnosis but rely heavily on psychological evaluations and patient history.
The diagnosis of Asthma often involves a spirometry test, which measures how much air you can exhale and how quickly.
COPD, like asthma, uses spirometry for diagnosis, but can also involve a chest X-ray or CT scan to show emphysema, one of the main types of COPD.
Spirometry for asthma typically shows an obstructive pattern with reduced FEV1 (Forced Expiratory Volume in one second) and FEV1/FVC (Forced Vital Capacity) ratio.
A significant improvement in FEV1 after using a bronchodilator is characteristic of asthma.

As of 2021, large-scale human studies (with over 1000 participants) investigating Ashwagandha's effect on anxiety were not available.
Many symptoms of Anxiety Disorders, Asthma, and COPD overlap, so professional medical evaluation is essential for an accurate diagnosis.
These conditions can coexist in an individual, making diagnosis based on symptoms alone challenging.

I have been treating my asthma for SOB and nothing seemed to work. Then I was prescribed some anxiety medications and I feel like it’s getting better. It’s been almost a year since I got SOB

It seems like I have asthma because when the air gets cold or when its raining, my nose feels blocked and im having difficulty breathing. Though, when we went to the doctor I was checked with a stethoscope and said my heart and lungs were fine. How could this be?
