🔸But this was surely a grandiose building, where up to 30000 Romans of the time gathered to support their favorite athletes and collecting memories of these special events.. like we do today in our modern stadiums 😊

I asked my architecture prof why the street level was so much higher now in Rome than it was in the days of the Empire and his answer to me was "the dust of the ages." That was a satisfactory answer, although I still had trouble imagining all of that accumulation over 2000 years. Truly amazing.
