A lot of the stone was repurposed to build St Peters basilica and other monuments. I'm just glad the full height can still be seen and appreciated.

I stayed in the hotel across the street. Coliseum and the Vatican were the view from my balcony. Stunning.

I’m probably one in million but I’d like them to restore it to its full glory like it was during the Roman Empire.

The fall of Rome is a complex historical event that has fascinated historians for centuries. It marks the transition from the ancient world to the medieval era, and its consequences were felt throughout Europe and beyond. The decline of the Roman Empire was not a sudden event but rather a gradual process that unfolded over several centuries. Various factors contributed to this decline, including political instability, economic troubles, military challenges, and social changes.

One of the primary reasons for the fall of Rome was political instability. The Roman Empire was plagued by a series of ineffective and corrupt leaders who struggled to maintain control over the vast territories. The frequent changes in leadership, often through violent means, led to a lack of continuity in governance. Civil wars and power struggles weakened the central authority, making it difficult to address the empire's pressing issues. Additionally, the division of the empire into the Western and Eastern Roman Empires in the late 3rd century created further divisions that hindered effective governance.

Economic troubles also played a significant role in the decline of Rome. The empire faced severe financial difficulties due to overreliance on slave labor, which stifled innovation and economic growth. As conquests slowed, the influx of wealth from new territories diminished, leading to economic stagnation. Heavy taxation burdened the citizens, causing discontent and reducing the loyalty of the populace. Inflation and a devalued currency further exacerbated the economic crisis, making it challenging for the empire to sustain its military and infrastructure.

Military challenges were another critical factor in the fall of Rome. The empire faced constant threats from external forces, including barbarian invasions from tribes such as the Visigoths, Vandals, and Huns. The Roman legions, once the pride of the empire, became increasingly ineffective due to a combination of factors, including recruitment difficulties and declining morale. The reliance on mercenaries, who were often less loyal than Roman soldiers, further weakened the military's effectiveness. The sack of Rome in 410 AD by the Visigoths marked a significant turning point, symbolizing the empire's vulnerability.

Social changes within the empire also contributed to its decline. The traditional Roman values of civic duty and loyalty began to erode, replaced by a focus on personal gain and luxury. The growing divide between the rich and poor created social unrest, leading to a decline in public services and infrastructure. The rise of Christianity also altered the cultural landscape of the empire, shifting focus from civic duty to religious devotion. This change in values may have weakened the traditional Roman identity and unity necessary for sustaining the empire.

In conclusion, the fall of Rome was the result of a combination of political instability, economic troubles, military challenges, and social changes. Each of these factors interplayed to create a situation where the empire could no longer sustain itself. The consequences of Rome's fall were profound, leading to the fragmentation of Europe and the rise of new powers in the medieval period. Understanding the complexities of this historical event provides valuable insights into the dynamics of empires and their eventual decline.

The Collesseum was built between the years 70 and 72. That is not more than 2, 000 years old!

My dad always told me that some Christians stole pieces of the Colosseum to build a church. That’s why there is so much missing. It was prolly just a joke tbh.

Yes, all Is true, but there had😢 been more than only one earthquake, that destroyed other parts of the ancient amphitheatre Flavio. It was even the Catholic church which took marble, statues and stones away to build other churches everywhere in the surroundings, plundered as well by private house builders all around it. In the world wars the population lived inside, like others did under the arcs of the ancient Roman aqueducts.

And Italy can not be bothered to rebuild it to it's previous condition You could hold concerts, opera, plays, all sorts inside. The money could be raised with their lottery money, instead it's part of a roundabout.
