Can you run E85 Fuel in a MK8 GTI?

We tested a new MK8 GTI flex fuel tune from the guys over at Unitronic. E85 fuel is something that has the potential to add more power to your car. Without a flex tune you will constantly have to change tunes on your car when you cant get E85. Having an Ethanol sensor paired with a Flex tune means you never have to worry about any of that.

If you want a more in-depth look at E85 please take a look at our previous video

Thanks to Ian from Reflect Tuning for the Dyno Help

Just here to remind people how nice 200hp felt on a 1.8t full bolt on in 2000, what a time

The MQB and B9 platforms are so blessed by this amazing ingenuity from the OEM and the aftermarket to introduce smart solutions to utilize it. This otherwise stock car is producing similar power to my FBO E85 IS20 MK7 - which I consider to be perfect for a daily. I'm impressed how easily this gets there on a beta map from a brand known for "conservative" power tunes. Thank you for the great content!

My B7 1.8T can run on 50:50 93 and E85, as it shifts the LT fuel trim ~15%. Usually my 100% 93 LT on 215hp with TT injectors sits at -4%. That gives me some margin to the +15 LT boost cutoff. The torque increase is noticable.

The most I can do is e10. My 1.2t corolla goes sooo fast on it. The 0-100 drops to 10sec. Amazing

I cant wait for this! I have been running the unitronic e85 tune on my mk8 gti for awhile and its great. At e74 my car made 376whp and 431wtq with just the tune and bolt ons. My only issue is having to switch back to the 93 tune when i know im going to be driving in an area that might not have e85, this solves that.

I have owned flex fuel cars for a long time and love the stuff. Wish my new Challenger was flex, hope they make a kit for it for when its out of warranty.

That's pretty cool that someones figured out how to run E85 on the VW ECU. Even more amazing that VW have even made this a possibility!!!!

This pocket rocket sounds really good on the dyno. Nice wheels and paint color too.

6:23 If this wiggling method doesn't work--for example, on an older car with some rust built up like mine, or if somebody's watching this 10 years in the future--there are wiper puller arm tools that exist that can help get the arm off. What you DON'T want to do, that I did, is put too much pressure on the bottom of the windshield, trying to pry it off. That's a great way to break a windshield, and then you might have to spend $400+ on a new one.

I used to add about 2 gallons of E85 to my 99.5 Audi A4 1.8T full bolt ons with a mystery tune i got on Ebay...it was for 18psi so i put E85 in it and set my high boost at 25psi on a KO4. I ran it that way for almost two years.

I have a couple questions and they have nothing to do with this video. Lol. So i recently purchased a used 2020 VW Golf GTI which i am guessing is a MK7 because of the year. I also am pretty sure it is the performance package. Red gti on front and back. Red gti calipers. Had no idea it was tuned when i purchased it. All they told us was that it was straight piped. So we have no idea what kind of tune or what stage or anything like that. Recently it has started to have a long startup when turning the key. Sometimes it will start good and sometimes it will not. Second time you turn the key it will start up good. The epc light has came on a couple times. Itll lose power and start jerking when you try to accelerate over 30-35 miles an hour. But if you turn the car off and back on itll usually stop. Sometimes it takes more times than others. I have codes p0302 for misfire in cylinder 2. P0413 for secondary air injection valve circuit open. I switched my 1 & 2 coil packs to see of it was that. After doing so i got the same misfire code for cylinder 2 and cylinder 1 now has a p0301 code for misfire. But now i got another code that is p0300 and it says random/multiple misfire detected. The last code i am getting is p0420 and it says catalyst system efficiency below threshold. Since we werent told it was tuned we were putting regular gas into it. We recently changed that to 91 octane. I changed the sparkplugs. And now have 2 coil packs coming to change them on cylinder 1 & 2. I hope that fixes it. Lol. I honestly do not know alot about cars. Any help is appreciated.

You can use a simple PEX crimp tool for those fuel line hose clamps. Search for "single ear crimp tool" and you'll find them between $10 - $20. Or any friend that has done PEX plumbing should have one.
