A look at every single spearman available in Age of Empires 4. We'll look at their unique bonuses per-civilisation and find out which civ has the most powerful spearman. cheers for watching guys! this was my first attempt at a video in this style, so any feedback/critique is very welcome, I'll be taking notes 📝

amendments / additions:
- Byzantine: If you age up to Imperial with the Palatine school - whenever a Byzantine unique land unit is created, there is a 30% chance that it will spawn at that landmark as well.
- Chinese: spearmen also get +20% attack speed and heal 20hp, when a nearby dynasty unit dies with the spirit way.

as of patch 12.2.3327 on 13.02.25:
- Spearmen now gain an additional +3/4/5/6 bonus damage versus elephants with Base/Hardened/Veteran/Elite tiers.
- Elite Army Tactics:
Effect adjusted from 20% → 15% damage (still affects bonus damage).
Cost increased from 400 food 800 gold → 500 food 1000 gold.
Effect changed from +4 melee armor → +15% health.
Mongols Improved Elite Army Tactics grants +20% damage and health, costing 1500 stone.

I love it, I just wish you had a chart at the end or some kind of summary with your opinion on which is the best. It would be cool to test them out too in custom scenarios. I know that's asking a lot though. Great content!

Great content as others said. I can see how much effort this took. One critical thing i would add would be a conclusion part. Since you gathered all the data, you can put them in categories. Spearman with highest hp, highest mov. speed etc.

You neglected the other benefit of the Byzantine Limitanei is that they apply to the Palatine School’s free units. So you can field a ton more of them

A crazy fact about the Abbasid and Ayyubid spearmen:
They can build Ram in dark age.
