Out of the Past should be in top five. One of the greatest femme fatales of all time. ''Baby, I just don't care.'' Robert Mitchum is perfect.

"Ace in the Hole", badass noir that doesn't get old, with strong dialogues, and that drill bombing in your head. Brilliant!

"SUNSET BOULEVARD" will never be forgotten. A true Masterpiece with Gloria Swanson and William Holden. Sydney Greenstreet is a career that came too late and left us way too soon.

I’m in total agreement with your #1: The Third Man! Still thrilling, provocative and frightening after watching it numerous times over a half century.

For all its' faults, "DETOUR" is a film noir that strongly remains in one's memory. "The Night of the Hunter" is a masterpiece with Lillian Gish and directed by Charles Laughton.

Noir is definitely one of my favourite genres. It is such a pity that so many of the films which tend to appear on lists of the best are now unavailable.

Gun Crazy, Scarlet Street, Force of Evil, Pick Up on South Street, The Asphalt Jungle, The Killers, The Big Combo, The Postman Always Rings Twice. Also, Out of the Past deserves a lot more than an honorable mention. It should easily be in the top 3.

All great films. I don't know if I would classify them all as "film noir", but admittedly thats a rather loose category, many films could be so defined. However, however you define it I believe that John Houston's "Asphalt Jungle" should be at or near the top. Kubrick's "The Killing" was really a sort of remake. To the extent of recasting the great Sterling Hayden in the lead. In fact if one had to go I'd certainly drop Kubrick and put in Houston for a second time along with The Maltese Falcon.

I think my favorite is "Out of the Past." But you didn't even mention some other greaat ones. "Gilda" certaily belongs on the list. And, one that is nver mentioned, but deserves to be, "Crossfire."

Apologies for the monotonous drone in this video, the result of a lovely Christmas cold

Even as a 12 year old, "The Third Man" fascinated me to return the next day to see it again.
In my book it is one of the greatest movies ever made. I must see it at least once a year.
It had everything to make it memorable: Orson Welles, the zither music, and the locale and its citizens!

*Touch of Evil* (1958) is outstanding with expert direction by Orson Welles and great acting by Orson Welles, Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Akim Tamiroff and Marlene Dietrich. Great opening scene and cinematography. Gets better and better with each viewing.
