Top Ten Film Noir Movies - What is film noir?
A genre of films made in the '40s and '50s with stylistic and thematic similarities. Tales of crime and moral ambiguity shot in black & white with high contrast lighting, bright lights and deep shadows. 
Film noir is French for “black film,” misleading as these aren't French films. The term was coined by French critics.

Great effort and tremendous list indeed, To select top 10 films from film noir genre must have been very difficult for you as it would have been for anyone because there are so many to choose from this great genre example Kiss if death_1947, Panic in the Streets_1950, Crossfire_1947 and many others could have easily made it in to your list respectably, finaly to leave out masterpiece's like The asphalt jungle_1950, The Killers_1946 from the list is a brave decision,

For the record my 8 favorite noirs in no order are Vertigo, Touch of Evil, Kiss Me Deadly, Out of the Past, The lineup, White Heat, Shoot the Piano Player, = and Night of the Hunter (if that is a noir)
