Does the aux board and power button help with soft shutting down of the RPi?

It looks cool, and hooray, a power button and RTC backup... But having the SATA board interface USB based is not really ideal and at $80+ for the SBC and this case I have to wonder if it might be better to just get another SBC that already has SATA

Seems quality, but it is a bit too pricey for its use. ($50) Rpi as a desktop is not all that good, which hurts the appeal for me.

By the time you tally up all the costs, you are in excess of $200! Buy a good used laptop and do your I/O with an Arduino connected to the laptop.
Also, Pi is not a good video anything. Slow, jerky and choppy. Thanks to the closed GPU hardware and software.
