Too much light will leave you blind, but in the darkness, the eyes open wider.

He is one of the two deities who never cheated on his spouse. That's something in Greek mythology.

The Primordials are my favorite dynasty of Greek gods, wish there were more stories that involved them.

This is very rare for Darkness (Erebus) ain't depicted as evil or demonic. Few cultures have this for most describe darkness as menacing and Devil like.

The British accent is the best accent to use when talking about Gods of darkness. Reminds me of Fantasy RPG'S.

Erebus is SUCH an underrated God I don’t know why people always forget that he exists in Greek mythology

Also, coming as no surprise to some of you, Nyx and Erebus were absolutely OBSESSED with each other, to the point where there marriage gave birth to over half the universal pantheon alone. (Who knew the cthonic's made for the most romantics).

As with most primordial deities of Greek mythology, Erebus represents a rather abstract concept, or a facet of the natural world.

Those "gods" *weren't really worshiped* (with temples, animal sacrifices etc.), and don't really participate in mythological stories. They are just mentioned as the origin of other deities, who also personify (somewhat less) abstract concepts.

Rather poetic, IMO :)

I have always thought much about Erebus, of investigating him further, and I never found much... Now I see, it was not me, there is really little known about him. Thanks This is one of my favorite channels on Youtube, and must watch!

I am always fascinated with the darkness as I believe it can exist without light.

As a kid who got interested in reading books about various myths (the internet wasn't used for commercial purposed during my childhood), I am glad gow informative this video about Erebus and Nyx as well as to those deities who linger in the dark or are known to be associates with it.

Nyx is a god I truly admire and Erebus adds to that well by being her lover

I've always found it rather sad how little Erebus is discussed in greek mythology. Whenever I attempt to find information on him, all I get is "These are his children" "He was born of Khaos" " He's connected somewhat to the Underworld". He doesn't even have his own myths :(

I imagine Erebus as the spirit of the darkness-out-of-bounds: the part between the walls where we cannot see, the unaddressed memory where nothing has been written, the gaps between things which is left undescribed.

My first encounter with the mythos surrounding Erebus came from his mention in what is still one of my very favorite poems, "Presences Perfected", by Siegfried Sassoon. I've pasted it below for those who've never read it, enjoy!

I looked on that prophetic land
Where, manifested by their powers,
Presences perfected stand
Whom night and day no more command
With shine and shadow of earthly hours.

I saw them. Numberless they stood
Half-way toward heaven, that men might m ark
The grandeur of their ghostlihood
Burning divinely on the dark.

Names had they none. Through spirit alone
They triumphed, the makers of mankind,
Whose robes like flames were round them blown
By winds which raved from the unknown
Erebus of earth's ancestral mind.

Siegfried Sassoon ~ "Presences Perfected"

Menoitios (Menoetius), god of rash action and violent rage (from the Greek words menos meaning "might", "force", "passion", and oitos meaning "ill-fated" or "doomed") brother of Atlas, Prometheus and Epimetheus, was blasted by Zeus with a thunderbolt into Erebos (Erebus) and banished there for eternity.
