I am with ya on this journey Chuck, just going a different path to get there. Tried programming in school, didn’t like it, tried Cybersec...LOVED it. Finishing a degree this December and I’m starting my Cert journey. Want to get Net+ & Sec+, then move into the hacking. Was thinking about doing Pentest+ just cause of the cost of C-EH, like you mention, since I’m paying for this out of pocket.

I've gone through several different materials for CEH. It has very little practical information on pentesting... Although what it does do is give a good overview on the pentesting process (phases, terms, etc.).

Great channel. I'm 71 and retired as editor in chief of a mainstream news website. Before I returned to journalism in my mid-50's, I worked in network security, designed IT tests for Brainbench and IBM, and taught Cisco certs. I'm thinking of pursuing the CEH certification if there are jobs available for a retired person who would only work from home. I wish you good luck on your journey, I would welcome your feedback. You seem to know your stuff.

When I was younger "hacking" was making something do something that everyone said it could not do ie. was told by a condescending
employee of Inkwell Systems in San Diego Ca. that if I wanted to do rotational graphics(back then 3D was not common terminology), I needed to buy a $50k Silicon Graphics minicomputer; I wrote a 3D demo program of a floating cube that would bounce around on a C64 computer/display and gave copies of the disks to some of the computer stores in San Diego in the early 80’s. My father who owned a gel cell battery factory wanted to find a way to test a battery in a few seconds vice 24 hours, after being told that a 1 MHz 65XX computer can only get about a few K of sampling per second and would need a MMU (Memory Management Unit) do to the higher sampling that was needed. I designed a MMU to meet the requirements and about half way through the construction I realized that if I wrote a small enough program in MXL (machine language) in zero page I could get 14700 per second sample rate which was perfect since I needed at least 9000 samples per second to do the mean/average quantization of the incoming data. One time I accidentally got into the GE BBS members only area while slumming around (paid area) I felt like was walking into someone’s unattended house, so I disconnected the modem connection. I guess hacking has changed a bit since then.
