Face it, so many AAA studios are only making expansions, DLC, remake and remasters in stead of new IPs so they changed the rules.

Most likely so they do not have to nominate Black Myth Wukong since the number of original IPs is getting smaller and smaller each year.

Also note the HIDDEN Jury not only make the nominee list, their votes count for 90%. Even if they changed it so players had 100% of the say, they would just make the nominees so we had to pick between Dustborn, Awakened 9 and Dragon Age Veilguard for Game of the Year. Making the nominee list is where all the power is.

To top it off, Geoff Khielley has filed to Trademark "The Game Awards", no doubt so they can shutdown other game awards shows like The Real Game Awards.
