this series, "xyz in 8 Positions" is one of my all time favorite Typology related things ever made. Keep up the great work C!

I'm a Ti user and my favorite ice cream flavor mint chocolate chip because I love the combination of the sweetness of chocolate and the freshness of mint.

Teal is my favorite color because I find it the most aesthetically pleasing, although I do like a lot of colors. However, I'm also an Se user, so Ti is kinda different when paired with Se than when it's paired with Ne.

So very well explained for me (INFJ), thanks Callipso! Really true for me. Yes, I do have a "foundation" of what I do put into a system by using Ti, while I rely on that much, I do balance it with my Fe very much and in turn value my emotions way more than raw logic; contrary to Thinkers.

And I was really impressed how you explained and what you said about IxFPs. Especially that: "These values and feeling cones are usually very well thought out and can be explained or translated quite well through their Te leading some people to think they're rational beings, when in reality they can use "Te gymnastics" to argue for whatever emotional value they choose to have."

I bet so, and really can imagine that of INFPs. Because of their high up Fi, their values (emotions) are so dear and close to them that they'll be ready to defend them, and when willing enough and needed or asked for, they use Te to do exactly that! And I think most people don't get their head wrapped around that when they know them and haven't seen that side of them before. And people who don't know them at all, like you said, think they're Thinkers when in truth, they're nothing but; Feelers at their core!

The more I watch these the more settled I'm becoming on being an INFP.

In regards to Ti, any decisions I make are based on any of the following: 1) How do I feel about it and/or does it align with my morals/values (Fi); 2) What have I done in the past and has it worked? (Si); 3) What I have researched about it, such as reading reviews on a product before I buy it (Te).

I left out Ne because I don't really rely on Ne for making decisions, it's more explorative and often prevents me from making decisions. It is the function that will make me consider multiple things before making a decision, and will have to lean on one of my other functions to make a decision (as decisions feel concrete and my Ne doesn't like anything to be final, therefore, I need to consciously overlook Ne in order for me to actually decide anything final.)

A random example, I will be that person standing in from of the ice cream at a grocery store trying to decide which on to buy.
Fi says, I love ice cream.
Ne says, yes, and there are SO MANY OPTIONS. I'm sure they're all good, so which one to choose? Do I try something new? I haven't heard of this brand before! Look at all the flavours!
Si says, last time you got this one and you enjoyed it, so why don't you get that one again? Or, last time you got this one and you didn't like it. Or, this one is overpriced for the same size as this other one of the same size.
Te says, look up reviews online to see what other's experiences have been like. If someone didn't like it...(shut up Te, I don't have time for that!)

Te recognizes that there are systems in place to reduce the time needed to make a decision, but it seems like so much work that I debunk before it has a chance to do it's job. My Ne doesn't want to get the same kind EVERY time I get ice cream, so I tend to ignore that annoying child Si that keeps screaming at me to get what I know is good.

Thus, I get stuck staring at the ice cream for sometimes 20 minutes (not even exaggerating) deciding what to get. My Ne wants to try more than one. My Fi definitely wants ice cream so I'm not leaving until I get some ice cream! If I buy one that I don't like than my Si is going to chime and say "I told you so..." Or my Te will says "if you had just taken 2 minutes to read a review you could have saved 20 minutes, and your money on something you ended up not liking. My Fi starts to think something is wrong with me that I couldn't make such a simple decision so I doubt my ability to make proper decision in the future.

I really could go on and on as it's a viscous cycle. I find I'm my happiest when I don't need to make decisions and I can just stick to my values and play my video games or watch fantasy shows or read a book or something.

My experience of Ti tends to make me think people have a different conception of logic than I do. I think logic is really about specification; or the identification of the contingencies of beliefs. I have this INFP I occasionally talk to, and when his aesthetic tastes are brought up, I tend to ask him "what is it about x that makes you like it?" which he struggles with. But eventually we work it out together, though this generally yields minimal predictive fruits (but I'm not fussed about that; it's not really the point.)

I think maybe this quote from the logician Frege is illustrative of my point: "The aim of proof is, in fact, not merely to place the truth of a proposition beyond all doubt, but also to afford us insight into the dependence of truths upon one another. The answers to the questions raised about the nature of arithmetic truths – are they a priori or a posteriori? synthetic or analytic? – must lie in this same direction."

the ENTP has Fi PolR so cant really answer this other than going to his experience, Si, and remember what he usually or often ate. once he activated Si it gets a bit more vivid and a chain if strawberry flavor moments helps him to see what his identity in this area is. ENTP uses this work around for answering Fi questions. There are other strategies for making up for Fi blind/confusing but I leave it this short.

😂 When someone asks my favorite colour:
**contemplates** well I think I like blue as a principle, I like what it stands for, but I guess I’ve been wearing a lot of green so maybe the right answer is green? But all my favorite items are red, so is it red just by virtue of specialness? Do I discount my 3 year long yellow phase?
Me: errrm, it depends...

that example at the end with frequency as a way to show liking was actually very accurate for me

although Ti is my tertiary and not dom or aux, i always find it hard to just say i like something in (i guess) an Fi way. it always has to be meaningful in my Ni perceptions and if not (like with ice cream since it isnt a major thing to me), i just go based on frequency or on what is the general accepted thing, which i suppose is Fe.

idk if i made sense or grasped every concept correctly, but tldr, that example at the end is similar to how i would approach such questions too

i am an INFP but i can t wrap my mind around the fact that i have TI in 8th position. I always thought i am a good thinker, analytical, i like to develop models and structures and think about things deeply and understand things from their root. im confused

Oh this was good. Very good. I liked the description at the end especially; having a visual/example really helps. Also, I loved your tone throughout the video; it was keen, clear and very, very knowledgeable. Well done :)
And guys, if you're thinking about getting typed, Calypso is fantastic. Srsly, I researched for YEARS and only recently found out mah type

Thanks for this. The world of Ti is a bewildering place, both in real-life interactions and in theory. I (an ENFP) was trying to explain types to my 9yo (my guess is he's an ESFP) and I was floundering around when it came to the T vs F. "So... they don't choose things based on what they want to do or what is the right thing to do, they... um... they think about it and then they decide to do something, and it doesn't matter how it... er... feels. But they want to do things after they decide to do them? Or they pretend they don't have feelings. Maybe." All this time very aware of my INTP husband looking at me and *thinking*. Finally he says, "You really don't understand that, do you?" Yeesh! Definitely room to learn there!

"These people tend to not make any decisions based on logical consistency"

Me, an INTP:

Honestly' I'd enjoy an even more detailed description, but this is nicely done. As someone who probably uses Ti dom, I'd just like to note that your description of this function is interesting. The way you see it might really be a good way of describing it, but it's not really how I, myself, see it (can't speak for others). Maybe if it's a dom function, one is not very aware of how it manifests because it's so subconscious, but nevertheless; I'd agree that it's definitely subjective in a sense that it's focused inwards, but I never see my decisions as based on logic per se - I know that for the sake of clarity, this is how you describe it - but I'd say it can be pretty hard to distinguish from Fi sometimes because internal logic and internal values can often seem like the same thing - only on the outside of course. It can be difficult to recognize what comes from your mind and what from your heart if I simplify it like this.

Yeah I am not sure I am logically consistent!🤣 I sometimes find myself making up my own logic on the fly and it makes sense although I didn’t think it out. I guess that’s low Te but I use to think it was low Ti .

Love this Ti is hard for me to grasp but it’s every teacher that drove me nuts and a chill ISTP brother.
