That engine sounds so sweet. No weak cylinders, no knocking. Save it!

It's just amazing how them motors sit and you get them to fire like that. This old fella sounded good too. Be awesome to see that machine cleaned all up and rebuilt then put back into service.

These were very well built engines, they last for ever no matter it seems what you do to them. P.S if the compressor works don;t kill it they are very useful.

I like how you give your son access to your work experience. He's at an age where he's learning rapidly. I bet he will become a whiz with Machinery when he gets older.

I remember the last tank of high sulphur diesel I ever bought, in 2007. Found it in Ohio some 7 hours from home. Put it in my ‘86 K5 Blazer with 6.5L diesel, that truck ran so good on the way back to PA. Miss the good stuff lol

Diesel Creek would love to add this to his antique collection
That Detroit runs smooth its worth saving. Don't forget to put the parts back you got in your pocket

The military put these in everything! 4-71 for small boats, forklifts and other equipment. The 6--71s were used in tanks, trucks buses, etc. The tanks and PT boats ran 2 6-71s. They went all the way to 16v 71 and the bigger newer brother 16v 92s are in heavy military trucks still..
You can find the 16v 71s in a lot of older gen-sets.

You're right! No electrical problems. All steel, everything but the belts!

It would be cool to save this engine and have this thing restored and preserved because it is just piece of marvelous historical machinery that shouldn't be lost.

I've broken front tractor axles doing stuff where all the weight is on the front axle and the rear is in the air. It was an expensive day. Stay well.
