Another Round is a compelling and honest examination of alc*hol's relationship with people.

For me, a crucial detail to this movie was that Vinterbergs daughter died while they were shooting this, and he still decided to keep shooting, since his daughter loved the script and was supposed to act in it as well. This movie is really a letter from Vinterberg to his daughter, and an encouragement to live while you can. Once you know this detail, and realize what this really tries to say, it is so much more moving. It's not just a film about drinking. Its a film about living life.

This will definitely win an oscar for best foreign film - it just won Best film, best director, best actor and best screenplay at the EFA

The ending of the film cleared a lot up for me. By ending on the freeze frame of Martin jumping into the harbor, euphorically drunk, the film illustrates the 2 sides of drinking. Alcohol frees us to take leaps we otherwise might not, and liberates us from our anxiety. But that freedom is unpredictable, and you might just leap to your death. That is, in a way, the risk we take when we drink. I think the film's final moment is a reference to what Kierkegaard called the "dizziness of freedom". While standing on the edge, we all have that impulse to jump. We can either fear that impulse, or embrace it. The freeze frame tells us, he is free, he is happy, but he's at RISK. Whether it is worth it or not, is up to you

I think it’s very realistic. Martin (main character) I think dealt with a bit of anxiety. He was unsure of himself and paired with the anxiety and just overall being bored made for a poor teacher and made him not address the issues in his relationship head on. It’s the alcohol that made him loosen up a bit and be more sure of himself in the classroom and it is the alcohol that lead him to finally confronting his wife and the issues in their relationship that I think he wasn’t brave enough to confront without it. I for one have taken shots of alcohol before presentations on multiple occasions and it has definitely helped loosen me up, gain confidence and connect with my audience better.

First review of you I really disagree, you missed the main point in the film. Also, the ending might be one of the best endings ever made, totally elevates the movie from an 8, 5 to a 10.

If Guillermo del Toro (one of the best directors of all time) listened to this review, he'd say you guys are missing beautiful aspects of the movie and would piss over the rating you guys gave it. :(

Drinking is a huge part of danish culture. You can buy alcohol from age 16, but most of us start earlier, like 14-15, sometimes even earlier if you’re one of the cool kids.

Drinking is a symbolism for many things, movie is not just about alchohol.

I didn't think this movie was going to be very good because the concept sounds ridiculous... but I was wrong, I LOVE this film! I hope it wins the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. The director deserves the Oscar for Best Director for producing such a beautiful movie after experiencing such an awful personal tragedy when he lost his daughter 5 days before filming. We can all relate to the highs and lows the characters' experience throughout the movie, which is why this film is a must see for everyone.

How did you guys watch this if you don't mind me asking? This has been one of my most anticipated of the year ever since seeing Vinterberg's "The Hunt" but I cant find it anywhere. Great review btw.

Didn’t feel it was as compelling as the other Oscar nominated films or enough to get a best director nomination either. It’s not a bad film by any means, but it’s mixed messaging and off-screen resolutions just left me underwhelmed, but happy for Vinterberg as a person for his personal tragedy, but I hope he could return with a film that has a stronger and more compelling narrative 🤷‍♂️
