I was the same. I never knew this film existed until I went to the cinemas and seen it being screened that day. This movie is sooo good! It has you invested in reading the subtitles in no time at all. I felt that the film gives you the feeling that it's glorifying alcohol consumption, because it made me think that trying out this theory is a good idea due to the positivity alcohol brought to their lives. However, the movie takes a turn for the worse for the characters where their excessive alcohol consumption reminds you that it's not a good idea. Mads' performance was worthy of an Oscar nomination and his co-stars were brilliant. I'm so passionate about promoting this film, which is why my comment is lengthy! I give the movie 8.5 out of 10 ( and I never give ratings higher than that)

Great review! Definitely want to watch this movie. Mads Mikkelsen is fantastic! The Depp drama aside, when they announced Mads as Grindelwald, I honestly would have preferred him as Grindelwald all along.

For me this is hands down the best film of 2020.
Slight correction. They didn’t drink on set. They conducted a drinking boot camp before starting the movie. Filming themselves to see how they act at different intoxication levels. The highest intoxication though was researched purely through YouTube videos. 🤣
It’s interesting how Mads has been in Bond, Marvel, and Star Wars franchises, and now goes into Harry Potter universe, and like you said portrayed one of the most iconic characters in Hannibal but people have to ask “who is Mads Mikkelsen?” And between how different his characters are in European movies vs American he IS one of the best actors working today.

Right on in your comparison to how this film might have played differently in the hands of an American director vs the slant way that the Danish filmmaker cuts to the heart of the malaise beneath the surface of these men’s lives. Mads got under my skin from the first season of Hannibal as an actor with depth and edge. He was an actual knife in that series.

Good review but they did NOT drink on the set. But they hold a camp where they where drinking for some days. But again they did not drink on set. Mads M. told that you cannot act drunk if you are drunk.

Watch “The Hunt” - another phenomenal Vinterberg-Mikkelsen collab. Vinterberg is definitely among the best directors out there.

Mads is pronounced "Mass". The "D" is silent. Watch "Adams Apples" (2005) and "The Green Butchers" (2003) - both dark danish comedies

If you want a pro tip of how to pronounce Mads in case, you have to do another review with him, it's pronounced a lot like the word 'mass'.
