Have you heard of the birthday blues? Birthdays often look like having dinner with family and friends at your favorite restaurant or doing something special with your romantic partner. You’re supposed to celebrate you —a time of happiness, success, and fulfillment. So, why does that feel so far away from the truth? Instead, you find yourself locked in your room, shutting the world out, as you blast music with sad lyrics.

It’s hard enough as it already is admitting that you’re not happy as another year already passes, but don’t beat yourself up over it. In this video, we're going to share with you a couple of ways to cope with birthday depression!

Every time my birthday rolls around I have an identity crisis and question my existence

I feel like I’m wasting my own time with what I’m doing right now. It’s like a reminder “your getting older, you’re not even getting anywhere good” it hurts

It’s my birthday today and I don’t know how to stop crying. This happens every single year

I always get sad days before my birthday . Whenever my mom brings the topic, I'd cry . Seeing my mom being happy, making efforts for me and wanting to celebrate the birthday of one of the most important people in her life makes me feel guiltier then I already am , so it naturally makes me sadder .

it's birthday depression and Christmas depression year after year for me.. I'm thinking it's because of my expectations versus reality. I see people enjoying these occasions whereas mine are just lonely and boring.. I subconsciously compare and make myself sad. I should just do things I enjoy during these occasions to make myself happy.. it's still a little pathetic but better than sulking on a happy occasion :)

I have almost always cried on my Birthday but I don't think I was depressed. I don't like too much attention. I just want the day to pass.

1. Adjust your expectations.
2. Keep yourself busy.
3. Focus on what you've accomplished.
4. Make yourself responsible for your happiness.
5. Let your friends and family know how you feel.
6. A little crying is okay.
7. Turn the sadness into a learning experience.

I never really like "celebrating" my birthday nor do I really care about getting gifts. I actually don't like sharing when my birthday is. I believe myself to be more of an introvert, so interactions, especially when focused on me, aren't something I seek and birthdays feels like one to avoid, personally...

As someone whose own father forgot my birthday (DEC 28) it's harsh sometimes. but mostly disappointing considering my expectations for them are already so low... Only 2 people remembered, my mother and a coworker. It was the one day I was happy to be at work, mostly cause it kept my mind busy.
It was hard not to cry in public though.

I haven't celebrated my birthday in 16 years. Just sat in a room with a bottle of vodka and my phone off. Will endevour to celebrate in some form this year though!

Thanks for uploading this ;w; I always cry on my birthday even without any reason, when it's to loud or there's so many relatives in one room. Then I need to hide behind my tablet and try to look ok. Though I'm trying to overcome it with the help of online friends who are just a small group of people with big hearts.

I'm 45 years old and I have been dealing with birthday blues for about 25 years. I cannot remember when it started but it has become worse. The regret post birthday is just as bad as the birthday blues. Through my own research I am just realizing that this is a thing and there are steps I can take to figure this out.

I got tons of celebration messages this year and gave them all a happy cheerful reply while I was actually crying in my room. My family had a huge fallout that day. There was so much hatred and I didn't know what to do. I ended up crying myself to sleep without a birthday celebration. It was a miserable birthday.
