2 weeks ago on Reddit there's a Mod that will enable AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) on any SteamVR game. So I tried this mod on DirtRally 2.0 and I want to share it with everyone. You Can see the Performance and Picture quality in the video.

0:00 Intro
0:25 How to install
0:57 Potential Problems
1:22 Testing Bench
2:02 How FSR work
3:12 Performance
4:30 Quality
5:53 Side by Side

OMG I just notice Youtube compression makes the quality test useless. Sorry About that :(

Here's the link to download the mod
And here's the original Reddit Post

Noted that I capture these video 3 days after the mod release and there's new version of the mod came out which I haven't tried it yet. Also I would recommend you tried it yourself because why not?

Cheers. Thanks for watching

You don't understand the reder scale setting. I have no idea why you are lowering the Seam VR's render scale. Only change the render scale setting in the mod's config file. Think of it like this. The config file's setting means it will make the game natevily render 77% the seamVR's normal resolution. Then it will use the AI upscaling to do the remaining 33% to reach your Steam VR's intended 100% resolution.

Noted. After posting the video I have tried a newer version of FSR mod and playing around with all the setting.
- Putting SteamVR Resolution to 100% and then adjust the resolution within FSR mod instead.
- Test it with and without Anti-Aliasing
- Play around render radius

I found that those flashing pixels that I experienced happen from the game engine itself. No matter how high you set your resolution if you don't put antialiasing to MSAA 4x the tree will always flashing. And somehow FSR mod does seem to have problems with native in-game MSAA. So I came to a conclusion that FSR is not working correctly in dirt rally 2.0.

if you have tried this mod and it is working for you in this game. I would be glad to learn your setup too :D

You shouldn't be touching SteamVR resolution. You are already upscaling/downscaling to your headset when you do not run it natively and then this mod introduces another upscaling solution. At that point it's going to be a third output of upscaling on upscaling if you touch steamvr. Of course the mod is going to not work well when you do that.

Best way to use this mod. Either use your headset at native resolution and then downscale with the mod OR use a lower resolution with your headset and set render scale to 1. ALWAYS KEEP STEAMVR AT 100%. You can try upscaling twice too but your gpu headroom needs to be high enough that the mod become kind of moot because latency also increases in addition to small performance increase.

i feel like it makes more sense to test this mod on a game that runs at low fps vrchat maybe? or just amp up all the settings, get a baseline fps and quality, then try with the mod to see what you get.

I played around with it in il2 BoS -- both in use as supersample, and as downsample... 1080ti/amd3800x @ 4.4ghz -- normally I get 90 frames on a quick mission duel pretty easy(fairly light load). HP Reverb G1.

One of the things I noticed is that its really hard to tell the difference unless you go absolutely crazy with the render scales.
Normally I run at 100% steam scale, which is around native for the G1 (2160x2160 per eye). Sometimes I boost it up to about 1.3x (I think steam slider is 160-170%) to get to 2800'ish, which is apparently around the optimum for most VR headsets for barrel distortion.
I tried several options of either running at 100% steam, 1.3x FSR, or 170% steam (actual res 1.3x)// 0.77 FSR, as well as 100% steam and .77 FSR.
I didn't find anything that I really gained from any of it.
What I *did* notice, was that the FSR 'renderer' tends to inject more frame-time overall in all situations, over just running Steam super sampling when necessary.

The only thing I could really maybe see this used for is if you go way down in res, bring it back up to native with FSR, apply the sharpening filter, and if you get enough performance, maybe you can turn on more eye candy? I didn't have that luck because I had better/more stable frametime/FPS overall just sticking without FSR at all.
