Показать описание
In this video we share Saint Vincent Ferrer, The Angel of the Apocalypse.
Vincent Ferrer was born in Valencia, Spain, during 1357.
His parents raised him to care deeply about his religious duties, without neglecting his education or concern for the poor.
One of his siblings, Boniface, later joined the Carthusian order and became its superior general.
Vincent, however, would become a Dominican, and preach the Gospel throughout Europe.
He joined at age 18 in 1374.
As a member of the Dominican Order of Preachers, Vincent committed much of the Bible to memory while also studying the Church Fathers and philosophy.
By age 28, he was renowned for his preaching, and also known to have a gift of prophecy.
“I blush and tremble, ” he wrote in a letter, “when I consider the terrible judgment impending on ecclesiastical superiors who live at their ease in rich palaces, while so many souls redeemed by the blood of Christ are perishing.
I pray without ceasing, to the Lord of the harvest, that he send good workmen into his harvest. ”
Vincent not only prayed, but acted, committing himself to missionary work and resolving to preach in every town between Avignon and his hometown in Spain.
In a commanding style, he denounced greed, blasphemy, sexual immorality, and popular disregard for the truths of faith.
His sermons often drew crowds of thousands and prompted dramatic conversions.
Popular acclaim, however, did not distract him from a life of asceticism and poverty.
He abstained completely from meat, slept on a straw mat, consumed only bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays, and accepted no donations for himself beyond what he needed to survive.
He traveled with five other Dominican friars at all times, and the men would spend hours hearing confessions.
Saint Vincent Ferrer was called "The Angel of the Apocalypse" by Pope Pius II for his great way of preaching about the final judgment and the antichrist.
"The Angel of the Apocalypse flies in the heavens to announce the day of the final judgment, to evangelize the inhabitants of the earth, " wrote Pius II in the bull of canonization of Saint Vincent Ferrer, who died on April 5, 1419.
Saint Vincent preached in Spanish or Latin, but he was always able to be understood by everyone.
Once, after having given three sermons to the Moors, he managed to convert 8 thousand of them.
On another occasion he got a group of 14 rabbis to also convert after his preaching.
The great Spanish saint interceded so that, in total, 28 people would return to life after having died.
In confession he could read souls.
On one occasion he told a mother that his son would become Pope and that happened with Calixtus III.
During a famine in Barcelona, he announced that two ships were arriving loaded with wheat.
Nobody believed him but, that same day, the boats arrived.
He also achieved the conversion of many with the simple prayer of the Rosary.
In his preaching on the final judgment, the Angel of the Apocalypse explained that Jesus will not come as he came the first time, poor and humble, but "with such majesty and power that the whole world will tremble. "
“People will say mountains and rocks fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb. ' (Revelation chapter 6).
Yet Jesus said: 'but when these things begin to happen, look up and raise your heads, 'for your redemption is at hand' (Luke chapter 21).
Jesus will separate the peoples from the nations as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats”, said the saint who knew the Bible by heart.
Saint Vincent also warned: “on that day it will be better to be a sheep of Jesus Christ than a Pope, a king or an emperor”.
In his sermons, the saint described five attitudes of the sheep to distinguish them: "simple innocence, great mercy, firm patience, true obedience and valuable penance. "
A sheep, said the saint, does not attack with its horns like a bull, “and neither does it bite with its teeth like a wolf, nor strike with its legs like a horse… if you want to be a sheep of Christ, you must not hit anyone with the horns of knowledge or power, as lawyers strike with the horns of power, jurists, advocates, or men who have great knowledge.
The gentlemen and the thugs with the horns of power, threatening and insulting, and extorting, with slander and threats and similar things.
Hear what the Lord says from the mouth of David: 'And I will break the horns of sinners, but the horns of the righteous will be exalted. ' (Psalm 74”.
The saint encouraged not to seek revenge and to be patient, and to be truly obedient, ordering thoughts, words and actions according to God's will.
