The Accident || Warriors OC PMV

This could be considered a sequel to my "is it cold outside?" video! We're taking a closer look at the events of that snowy night so long ago.

Possum, a former Micaclan member turned rogue, finds himself haunted by the worst night of his life.

Several moons ago, at the beginning of leaf-fall, the mountains were hit with an unexpectedly early snowstorm. When they should have been safe from the storm, his mate Sweetpea and their kit, Muddy, are instead driven from their former home, a twoleg den, by a fire. Helpless to save them, Possum could only watch from the outside and call out to his family.
Disoriented from smoke inhalation, the searing heat, and the loss of her home, Sweetpea still manages to protect their kitten from danger, and Possum meets her at the safety of the tree line behind the blazing wreck. With leaf-bare seemingly arriving without leaf-fall ever having had a chance to come, Possum knows he won't be able to care for his mate and kit on his own. He knows of a way they might be safe; it would be a long shot, but his former clan might be able to help them through leaf-bare.
However, the journey proves to be too much for Sweetpea. The smoke and heat of the fire followed by the icy winds of the snowstorm take their toll, and she succumbs to her injuries.
Left with only their kitten, Possum cannot take long to mourn her loss. Their kit can hardly shiver anymore, and now, more than ever, he needs to be taken somewhere warm. Possum journeys further up the mountain, all the way into Micaclan territory, where he meets a former clanmate, Wrentail.
Wrentail meets Possum with all the hostility a clan cat can muster toward a rogue on their territory, but Possum pleads for his help; his kitten is dangerously cold, and far too small to be able to eat any food that Possum might catch for him. With his mother gone and his home destroyed, the tiny kitten is in dire need of help.
Wrentail knows the Code. Any kitten in danger must be cared for, no matter where that kitten comes from. He agrees to take the kit to the clan's nursery, but Possum is a traitor to the clan. If he steps one paw onto Micaclan's territory, crosses their borders by a single whisker, Wrentail will rip him apart. With one last glare, Wrentail takes the tiny kit, whom Possum tells him should be named Mudkit, to the clan camp.
Possum is left at the border of the territory, alone.

The fact that Wren didn't look at Muddy with anger, but with worry and conflict.. He was angry at Possum, but that's just a little kitten, and the code stands clear on what to do, even if it's a traitor's kit, it's still a life to save.

Awe man, the fact that it was Wrentail who took Mudkit in _hurts._ Underneath all that hostility and sternness was indeed a good cat.

So from what I understand, Possum was taking Sweetpea and Mudkit to MicaClan either to join them or just to receive medical attention but didn’t make it in time :, ( and Possum, reeling from the days events finds he can’t just go back, he can’t find a life there anymore. But he hopes Mudkit can, or maybe he can’t handle being around Mudkit seeing how much he looks like his mother and is a constant reminder of everything he’s lost.
Poor Possum :(

It looked like Wrentail felt sympathy for Mudkit for a moment. It makes me wonder if being the son of a “traitor” rogue was really all that made Wrentail abuse Mudpaw, or if there was something else, like an especially sore history between Possum and Wren, or something about Mudpaw as an apprentice Wrentail just could not stand, or something entirely unrelated to Mudpaw that happened to Wrentail after this that made him want to take anger out on him. Wrentail putting his claws on his apprentice’s face just feels like it goes beyond just a stern mentor with a bigot problem, although I could be wrong.

Wrentail seems like the "I'm a good person because I don’t want to go to Hell" cat here. He took Mudkit because of the warrior code. Had the warrior code not specified all kits, would he have told them to go back out into the cold where rogues belonged? Maybe he was showing begrudging kindness, but I'm not sure.

Goodness! The storytelling is excellent here!

This is a great video to follow on Mudpaw’s lore! What I’m guessing is that Wrentail hates Mudpaw because he is the kit of Possum (who we calls a “traitor”). This was a great lore video, paired with great animation and intricate storytelling! Love it!

It's so interesting that WRENTAIL of all people was the one who took Mud back. It really makes me wonder Wrentail's motives EVEN MORE.

Was it just his power hungry personality? Did he not mean to hurt Mudpaw the way he did? Or possibly...was the only thing he could see in Mudpaw his perceived "failure" of a father?

I love the visual interest of the color scheme of the animatics, like Possum sees the world in vibrant colour until his mate's death, and how Mudpaw has practically seen the world in shades of grey his whole life

That last scene is so heartbreaking! Possum has no idea what’s to come for mudkit, he has no idea what horrible things Wrentail will do to him. He most definitely doesn’t know of mudkit is even going to survive! You can just feel the despair he’s feeling

Wrentail being the one to take Mudkit in makes me HURT so bad. LIKE UGHHH knowing what happens in the future I felt nothing but dread when seeing Mudkit in his maw.
