Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume has slammed Treasurer Jim Chalmers for “deteriorating” the position of Australia’s economy.

Mr Chalmers is expected to reveal a second consecutive budget surplus.

It will make Jim Chalmers the first Labor treasurer since Paul Keating to produce back-to-back budget surpluses.

“Jim Chalmers inherited a strong economy with low levels of unemployment, and, in fact, we’ve seen a deteriorating position since then,” Ms Hume told Sky News Australia.

“Debt has increased by around $50 billion just in the last couple of years alone; spending has increased.”

Inflation rates fell again in the last month. Seems a bit hypocritical for an opposition that left office with inflation at 6.5% to criticize Labor dont you think.
