Near Miss in the Pattern | Flying with Jessica Cox

Fly along with me on a training flight and catch another airplane cut in about 100 feet under me in the pattern.

The near-miss occurs about 13 minutes in. As I bank right to make space, you'll see the Cessna fly underneath the venturi (the black tube).

Thank you, Jessica. I’m an Ercoupe owner, too!

It sure looked like you were venting fuel from your left gas gap.

Remarkable Jessica! You handle that bird like a pro! Fred Weick and his team were true pioneers endeavoring to offer the safest general aviation experience for everyone with their Ercoupe. Though their works started in 1934 it is still relevant today. You are a gifted pilot. I'm preparing to design an integrated composite (Fiberglass Carbon Fiber) build for electric aircraft propulsion system that I've worked out originally for boats. My system is different in that the batteries are built into the unit and become part of the structure. At this time I'm considering redesigns of the Mooney M20 C, Aero Commander 100, Velocity ~ Raptor however I haven't considered the Aircoupe for a redesign till today. I would like to know any ergonomic improvement suggestions you may have in mind for improved flight deck systems? Best wishes.

Was the other traffic that cut in making calls in the pattern? Kinda difficult to make out, there's one guy just kinda mumbling what I assume are position reports. One of the things I worry about flying a low wing is dropping above a high wing when we can't see each other.
I highly recommend an ADS-B in receiver coupled with some software to give you an aid to situational awareness. If you're flush with cash you can get something like a Stratus from Sporty's. Or you can get an open-source hardware receiver if you're savvy. Look for "Stratux" on Amazon, should be around $250.

Dave (Alon owner /pilot) in Canada. That is a busy frwq. with lots of traffic entering the LH pattern on th e45. I think I heard that white (Cessna?) announce his intention. You called turning downwind. Another call mid field downwind may have alerted him to your position and you might have asked his position and if he had you in sight on the DW. I think there was some lack of communication between the aircraft. Don't be shy and become a controller if you have to sort out a busy pattern . Stay alert for other traffic who are focused on a magenta line and not looking out the window. ADSB will not save you or them. Be safe.Have fun.

I am currently training to become a private pilot. Is the person next to you taking care of the right rudder on take off?
