COLM I WANT TO SING WITH YOU WHEN I AM HALFWAY DONE WITH A BOTTLE OF WHISKEY

LYRICS:
On the fourth of July,
Eighteen hundred and six,
We set sail from the sweet cove of Cork
We were sailing away with a cargo of bricks
For the Grand City Hall in New York

'Twas a wonderful craft

She was rigged fore and aft
And oh, how the wild wind drove her
She stood several blasts
She had twenty-seven masts
And they called her The Irish Rover

We had one million bags of the best Sligo Rags
We had two million barrels of stone
We had three million sides of old blind horses hides
We had four million barrels of bones

We had five million hogs
Six million dogs
Seven million barrels of porter
We had eight million bails of old nanny goats' tails
In the hold of The Irish Rover

There was ol' Mickey Coote
Who played hard on his flute
When the ladies lined up for a set
He was tootin' with skill
For each sparkling quadrille
Though the dancers were fluther'd and bet

With his smart witty talk
He was cock of the walk
And he rolled the dames under and over
They all knew at a glance
When he took up his stance
That he sailed in The Irish Rover

There was Barney McGee
From the banks of the Lee
There was Hogan from County Tyrone
There was Johnny McGurk
Who was scared stiff of work
And a man from Westmeath called Malone

There was Slugger O'Toole
Who was drunk as a rule
And fighting Bill Treacy from Dover
And your man, Mick MacCann
From the banks of the Bann
Was the skipper on The Irish Rover

For the sailor it's always a bother in life
It's so lonesome by night and by day
That he longs for the shore
And a charming young whore
Who will melt all his troubles away

Oh, the noise and the rout
Swillin' poitin and stout
For him soon the torment's over
Of the love of a maid, he is never afraid
That old salt from The Irish Rover

We had sailed seven years
When the measles broke out
And the ship lost its way in the fog
And that whale of a crew
Was reduced down to two
Just myself and the Captain's old dog

Then the ship struck a rock
Oh Lord, what a shock
The bulkhead was turned right over
Turned nine times around
And the poor old dog was drowned
And the last of The Irish Rover

(also, petition for Colm to start adding closed captions to his videos)

Upbeat tune, toe-tapping pace, everyone dies at the end. Yup, it's an Irish song all right!

I know you probably won’t see this colm but if you do just wanna say I’m a self taught pianist and composer and your stuff is a huge inspiration to me. I don’t have a lot of time to devote to music because I am in the US Military but your stuff helps inspire me to keep creating. Much love brother!

🎶 There was Colm McGuinn, with a voice smooth as sin, as the captain of our merry mob
And the queen of the land, our dear Cerridwen, with pet spiders to make a man sob!
There's Grim, CleanixX, and Kec S telling jokes to the rest, while Lady Savannah brought muffins!
Then there's me, Jeremy, writing verses with glee for the Beauts of the Irish Puffin! 🎶

Man, it's weird hearing this sung by somebody sober. Absolutely banging rendition.

I love Irish accents. When Irish people speak it sounds like waves crashing on a shingle beach at low tide

Hell yes, another song for my playlist. With a new cover even the end of the holidays doesn't hurt that much. Already set my alarm for the premiere, can't wait to hear it

Thank you Colm. My old Da used to sing this to me putting me to bed when I was about 4 or 5. He would make me laugh so hard! When he was done I was so tired I fell asleep before he even turned off the light. Great memories.

What a splendid cover of a true Irish anthem. Gladly you kept the spirit of The Pogues and The Dubliners. Still has it's own character. What a fantastic version. Cheers to you with some fine Redbreast!

Another one bites the dust. Colm blasted the top off the Irish Rover. With his voice and music I've got another song added to my constant playlist.

Wow this song brings back memories, RIP to my late godmother who bought me my first Pouges CD when I was far too young to understand most the lyrics, I remember the stunned and awkward look on my mother's face so well :')
