We Know How Large Idaho's Next Volcanic Eruption Will Be

We know the approximate volume of Idaho's next volcanic eruption, and it is quite likely to be large. However, this volume estimate will only be correct if Idaho's next volcanic eruption occurs from the Craters of the Moon volcano. Since the Craters of the Moon has erupted more in the last 15,000 years than any other volcano in the state, it is statistically the most likely volcano to erupt next in Idaho. #idaho #geology #science

Craters of the Moon is a volcanic field where magma is supplied from the Yellowstone Hotspot. This volcanic field is located within a series of Caldaras formed when Craters of the Moon was a supervolcano, which is now replaced by present-day Yellowstone.

I believe the Yellowstone Hotspot should be studied more, as it appears the older volcanoes appear to erupt more frequently.

I live and go to school in SE Idaho and we study these fields quite often. Craters of the moon is an absolutely incredible site, rifting is badass
