The man is a miner. For most of Idaho's history mining, mostly silver, was the most important industry. The timber and agriculture industries are also important industries. The animals and mountains represent Idaho's abundant nature, including part of the Rocky, Sawtooth, and Selkirk mountain ranges and Yellowstone National Park. The woman is Justice, you can see her holding the scales of justice. The flowers are western syringa or mock orange are beautiful and closely related to lilacs. The river represents the extensive next work of rivers throughout the state including the Salmon, Snake, Boise and Pend Orielle rivers. A little known fact is that, the Port of Lewiston on the Snake River is the most inland seaport in the western US, as it can be reached from the Pacific Ocean via the Columbia and Snake Rivers.

Fun fact: The “wizard cap” and the stick (pole) its on are actually prominent symbols of Liberty from early America originating from ancient times!

Both were part of a manumission ritual where slaves were legally freed in Ancient Rome. The hat is called a liberty cap, based on the pileus cap, which was given to the newly freed person after. The pole is called a liberty pole based on the vindicta rod they touched them with to pronounce them free.

Around the American Revolution, Lady Liberty and liberty caps on poles (or on “liberty trees”) were used as signs of resistance against British rule. They’re on a lot of early US coins too.

Usually Lady Liberty (not the statue, the goddess) has the cap and/or pole but here, the cap and pole represents liberty while Lady Justice represents justice (obviously) and her position side by side with the man (the miner) represents women’s equality — this is also the only state seal designed by a woman, Emma Sarah Etine Edwards ♥️

As an Idahoan, I can say its beautiful here, and you should definately visit again. Go camping in our wilderness, or at least a picnic. The country side in the mountains is where the culture is at.

Love Hells canyon, and seeing the waterfall in twin falls. Cascade and McCall are beautiful. The white water rafting in Riggins is epic! The rapids up there are wicked. There are things to do if you know where to go. Just stay away from the conspiracy theorists 😂 those January 6'ers will come for ya!
