How heavy can a Greatsword be and stil be usable?

True on the scale because there wasn't any standard for any sword. Established Crafters, guilds or independent/castle smiths would make their own type of blades in batches or for clients. The classification of swords is just a modern view.

I'm currently using a 4kg variant from Kovex Ars.
It's way too heavy and very, VERY bad für wrists and shoulders without proper training.
Maybe good in a battle with lot of targets, but certainly not for effective fencing.

Great short but there was no standard size it was more in relation to the man. A 7ft frisian giant had a 7ft long sword for example.
